Good Lord. I've spend the last little while interacting with these forums and reading what everyone posts. It amazes me how stupid some of you guys make yourself sound. From simple spelling errors to grievous grammatical problems. All it takes is a couple of extra seconds to sweep through your post and proof read it before you click the submit button. I guarantee that if people would take a little pride in themselves and just -blam!-ing proofread their posts this forum would elevate...if you're making an argument and you have grammatical errors in your post it undermines you drastically. Just take the extra few seconds...it wont kill you, and it will keep me from cringing every time I see someone writing like a four year old.

So true, this is why i hope Sketchfactor or someone reads this and adds a freaken ABC check to our posts. Like a tab for quote, we need a tab that says ABC check.

Also thats what the Edit button is for, But the ABC check helps for people who actually cant spell, not just make typos.

Don't you mean "and I will keep from cringing" ?

:-)

I agree.

The spelling and grammar that the posters use here is abhorent. Even some of the moderators are bad. I suppose that all people can not be as blessed with the ability to use the written word correctly.

As for me, the writen word is my God. I love to write. In my mind, I would be some what of a lesser creature if I allowed myself to post something without punctuation, capitolization, and nearly perfect grammer.

Thank You, Decatus.

That's just mean...

Isn't it correct both ways?

  • 04.29.2004 4:49 PM PDT

Let the people choose what they wish to do. If they're too lazy to look like a sophisticated person, and use proper grammar and spelling, then they can do that if they really wish to. I hate bad-spellers, personally, and have tried to stop it in the far past. It never works; they never stop unless they see how bad they look from someone else's eyes. This topic really frustrates me, why can’t they at least pull up Microsoft Word and check their grammatical horror?

Laziness: I am destroyer of worlds.

Dr Fearless:

I have been typing with near perfect grammar since I was nine. It's not that hard. All you have to du is write a bit slower and check your damn post once or twice.

The thing that really pisses me off about the bad-grammar people is the use of the internet slang. "u" "ur" "ne1" and "some1" are the worst. The infuriate me to no end.

Stosh:

Shut up! I take it back!

:-(

Can you point those words out, please?

Just use my ABC check idea, just like how Microsoft word has it.

When I see those things used I swear it hurts me physically (think agonizing pain, that bad).

Same here. Not only that, but it hurts my eyes. I -blam!- you not. My eyes really do hurt after reading post, after post, after post of that -blam!-.

How about you play halo instead of reading? It works for me.

One upon a time I got a headache from reading a very long, grammatically wrong post. Now I must refrain from reading such things.

Yeah, the argument that you're young is no argument at all. Even the worst public school out there will teach you enough to learn how to read, and if you want to improve your lingual skills, all you have to do is read a book every now and then. Granted, a thirteen year old is probably not going to sound as sophisticated as a nineteen year old English major in college, but it truly doesn't take a tremendous amount of effort to stay within correct grammatical conventions. Like i've said...all it takes is a couple of minutes to proof read. You can tell if a sentance doesn't sound right. Take the time and make it sound like it should.

Yes but I know young people can use spell checkers. They're not hard to use. A lot easier than beating halo on normal. I don't mind the grammar so much. I'm pretty sloppy with my online grammar. I'm happy as long as you use periods, apostrophes, and correct capitalization. I tend to use my commas like a newspaper journalist...whenever I feel the reader needs to take a break.

Also I hate all the stupid abbreviations people tend to use online. Like the couple Banshee Barron listed above. Don't use those things! L33t speak isn't cool anymore.

Hello Dr.Fearless or whatever the hell your name is.

Seeing as how you are 13, you are probably one of the youngest people on here and it is funny how you say that

I strongly doubt that anyone is much younger than you... seeing as how the main idea of this post is spelling, chances are my response is going to pick apart due to spelling errors by people wishing to "stick up" for Dr.Fearless. But its alright because you guys and your obssesion with grammer and spelling is very funny. :)

You know what is real funny about this thread? Not one post has been free of a grammatical error or a mis-spelled word. There is one, and only one saying on earth that will resolve every single complaint, "people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones." Come on, give everyone a break. We all come from different walks of life, are different ages and so on, but we are all Halo fans. Thats what matters, we are here for the love of Halo. If you don't like what you are reading and the post isn't legible, then make the choice to skip it and move on.
