I would go with that if half the damned posts on these forums weren't:

"Dood, that covnt snipr iz so |337. Wat do u think."

It's pretty bad when they don't take the effort to make something like that read-able... It's like they intentionally do it.

:-(

Good Lord. I've spend the last little while interacting with these forums and reading what everyone posts. It amazes me how stupid some of you guys make yourself sound. From simple spelling errors to grievous grammatical problems. All it takes is a couple of extra seconds to sweep through your post and proof read it before you click the submit button. I guarantee that if people would take a little pride in themselves and just -blam!-ing proofread their posts this forum would elevate...if you're making an argument and you have grammatical errors in your post it undermines you drastically. Just take the extra few seconds...it wont kill you, and it will keep me from cringing every time I see someone writing like a four year old.
Sorry, I love picking holes in what people say, but aren't you using ellipsis incorrectly? I think you were after a full stop the first time and a dash the second.
However, if you get pissed off with people being ungrammatical then send 'em here: http://tinyurl.com/2ptve

You know what is real funny about this thread? Not one post has been free of a grammatical error or a mis-spelled word.

Read my posts again and show me the errors. I want to see them. Prove your statement. ;-)

What he said. Please, be quick about it. If it's half that bad, I have some editing to do.

Oh, and Stosh, I'm still waiting for you to tell me what I misspelled.

ALRIGHT BOYS! We can spend all day picking and scrutinizing each other's posts...thats not the point of the thread. The point of the thread is for all those people out there who truly dont care about what they write, and to me, it just boggles my mind why you wouldnt just look at what you're writing and take a little pride in it. It is a reflection of you, believe it or not. Granted, its anonymous, and this is the web, but still. And about the ellipsis, I guess that depends on your style of writing. And if I want an ellipsis, then dammit, I'm gonna put an ellipsis :).

That's true...

Good Lord.

Good Lord! (Sam Fisher is a bad influence on me....)

I agree.... to an extent. I hate seeing bad grammar. When people don't know how to use grammar correclty, then its a bit understandable (they should learn, though), but when they're simply too lazy to apply known skills for other peoples' eyes' benefit, then it makes me...... a tad angry.

Spelling is another issue. Some people are just bad spellers (yes, I know they can use spell checks, but that doesn't cross everyone's minds). As long as the reader knows what the typer is saying (mostly), then its tolerable. And everyone makes mistakes (one time I was complaining about the bad grammar and spelling a while back, and I spelled grammar as grammer, not catching it before I submitted). Intentional bad spelling annoys me a bit, though. Why spell "cool" as "kewl" or "kool?" What difference does the K make?

Although this makes me a bit of a hypocrite in saying it (since I've used them in the past a small number of times (and that small number is mostly on AIM)), I think people should try to get away from outrageously lazy abreviations, such as "ur," "2" (instead of to or too, not the number), "coo," and so on...

Just my thoughts.

Well put Tartarus, although I agree with most that a little effort towards proofing your post before clicking submit would go a long way towards the enjoyment of the forums. But you're right to point out the reason we're all here, after all, this isn't a forum dedicated to a common love of the English language!

Aww, I guess I missed all the fun then, I'm awsome at pissing contests :P. I have to agree with everyone though, proper grammar and punctuation is your friend. It doesn't need to be perfect, but as long as it's at least legible, I'll be happy.

I agree with all of this. People have made fun of me for putting the correct punctuation and spelling. They're crazy! I think one thing that would be nice is a way to search the forums for a specific post by name or author. Just a helpful thought.

You know what would make these forums better? less -blam!-ing. So what if a person makes a mistake? Now if a person is just being a jackass and types like this. "OMG halo too roks so muhc, teh game gona kil half lyf too!!!!" Im probably going a little to far but whatever, you get the point. Who cares if people make a few grammar mistakes? If you can read it, good. If you cant, no big deal. Its not your problem, its the person who made its problem.

Simmer down, guys....

I noticed that most of the people that have replied to this thread have used relatively decent grammar and spelling. There are mistakes within them, yes, but they're so small that it doesn't matter. Don't point out their mistakes, because there are few and they are small. Also, don't ask others to point out your mistakes, because that just furthers arguments. Like decatus said, this is not a "pissing contest." So zip up those flies!

Most of the time, I use half-way (halfway?) decent grammar. My mother is an English teacher and has drilled it into me. I too hate all those people that use, I don't the proper name for it, some sort of instant messenger "slang." And by the way, what does I337 mean?

I'll never find any mistakes now. Almost everone complaining has "Edited" in their post. : )

Look, I'll admit I do like to read clean post too, but I'm not going to whine and cry and get all worked up about everyone doing stupid things with spelling and grammer. Reading those kind of post gets more annoying than seeing the mistakes. I hate cry babies.

Props to everyone who is not acting like an idiot in this thread. I'm glad we can have differing views and not have to be immature about expressing them. It's like we're adults or something. Anyway, thanks for not ruining it (so far). It's, at the very least, a fun way to see what other people think.

|337 is 'hacker speek' for the messenger slang 'leet', which means elite. Basically it's a bastardized version of a stupid slang.

I'd also like to say that I disagree with one of the people that posted above. It is not fine when some one posts that crap. I think that repeated use of slang like "ne1" "ur" and etc should be basis for execution by ninja. It's horrid.

Shai Hulud:
This is true, and I agree with you wholeheartedly.

However, It is kind of strange to read a post about the horrors of bad grammar/spelling with grammar spelled "grammer." Just strange. I'm not pointing fingers, or "pissing" or saying it's a problem. In fact, these "errors" are so small that it's a wonder anyone sees them.

I guess the point is, no one is perfect, but many people are unecessarily bad (either intentionally or just because they are too lazy to correct themselves).

Thanks, Dragon Hunter. They deserve to be booted off and its really hard to read that poo. I would also like to suggest that they may be, flamming ninja's? Or rabid dog's that are mean and they bark at you and they have bee's in their mouth's and when they bark they shoot the bee's at you!! (The Simpson's). HAHAHAHEE.=D

I just think that everyone who posts anywhere should at least make their post(s) legible. I also cannot stand the way that people who should know better type like idiots (no-one in this thread guys good job). An exception to this is when you are really trying to type something fast, it's ok to use 'u' instead of 'you' because its legible. One thing that really pisses me off though...when people dont use 'their', 'there', and 'they're's correctly. Same thing with 'to', 'too', and 'two'. I hate it when people mess those up. Can't stand it at all.

Now that you mention it, I have noticed big grammatical problems. It's ok for maybe a few mistyped words; I do it all the time. I have noticed some people probably don't know how to write great English. I bet a lot of people here are re-reading their messages to make sure that they don't have any grammatical mistakes! Lol!
