It does good damage and takes down shields, makes opponents go slow, and looks cool to boot. All the makings of my fav Halo 1 multiplayer weapon.

Pistol owns everything...

I love it too. Nothing quite compares to rushing someone firing my PR and then connecting it with a melee. I hate the PR in Halo 2. It's only useful for duel wielding IMO.

I hate the halo:ce weapons. Today me and 3 others were playing it, one guy had the PR and started shooting me. It tried to face him but I was being stunned and couldn't turn and the stun was so bad that he just meleed me in the back. Retarded if you ask me. So much for weapon balance.

Yeah, when you're able to take out a tank with it, that's when it gets a little sad. I can use the PR to take down any vehicle.

Yeah, PR rocks in close quarters. Plasma Rifle + double melee = ultra sexiness.

How is that imbalanced? That's like saying "Well, this guy had the sniper and was far away and he shot me. So much for weapon balance." The PR is only useful in close range, so it was your fault that you let somebody get that close to you with the PR. The shotgun is far more powerful than the PR anyway. If you took away the PR stun, it would be useless b/c shotgun would win everytime.

I'm sorry if I'm ranting but this happens to Halo 1 all the time. Aside from popular belief Halo 1 is, for the most part, balanced! (barring the PP and Needler, and AR most of the time) The PR has tons of counters. In fact, I'll make a counter list.

These are the big five, the most used weapons in CE. They include the Pistol, Plasma Rifle, Shotgun, Sniper, and Rocket Launcher

Plasma Rifle Counters:
Any Mid-long range weapon including the Pistol, Sniper, and Rocket Launcher. Shotgun can win if the bolts are effectively dodged.

Pistol Counters:
Shotgun at close range, PR at close range beside/behind opponent, Rocket Launcher at close-mid range, Sniper at mid-long range. Basically anything upclose with an OS will give you a huge advange unless your opponent's aiming and strafing is godly.

Rocket Launcher Counters:
Be a good shot with Pistol or Sniper, or sneak in close and force a suicide or weapon switch. OS can help if the rocket is off a little. The RL is the Big Daddy of Halo. Anything one of the big five can beat it, but it's tough to do so.

Shotgun Counters:
Pistol or sniper at Mid-long Range, PR close range beside/behind opponent. Rocket Launcher at mid range.

Sniper Counters:
The Pistol can beat a sniper by knocking it out of zoom at almost any range, and can even kill an impatient sniper that won't let their shields recharge. Close range weapons also work wonders, but be wary of skilled players that can no-scope you through your skull. It doesn't happen often, but still don't forget to strafe.

Those are the big five. You'll notice each one of those five can beat one of the other four in a given situation. Some counters are more difficult than others, but all are very possible. Powerups help make some counters work a bit easier. For example, I find grabbing an OS helps me take down a Rocket Whore with my pistol given the chance that his shot is off enough. (although I'd much rather have the OS+RL, because I'm a RL Whore =)

On the subject of broken weapons the Assault Rifle does make a great last resort when your pistol is reloading even though it has no real strength, while the PP and Needler are broken outright.

Good point about keeping distance, not like I cared about getting killed I just found it funny how he could stun me, go around me and melee me in the back. But we were playing Blood Gulch, which is prone to spawn killing and we had "short range" weapons enabled. I hate the spawn points in some maps. On coagulation the fort is bigger and there is more than two sprawn points.

Btw I do use counter methods, its just that I don't play halo:ce often. My friend thinks noone can kill him when he has shotty/sword. But then I snipe him in the head :D

Then he rethinks and uses shotty/sniper then we rush him with ghosts and warthogs :D

After that he uses the rl/sniper, so we do our best to overpower him in close-quarters with the sword and shotty that hes carelessly left out for us. A good game of wits.

FPS these days are more about tactics and are losing the "blow stuff up without thinking" gameplay.

Yeah, spawn points in CE can be pretty crappy at times. If you poke around on the web though you can find a lot of spawn charts and spawn traps for a few of the CE maps. When playing team games if you're knowledgable enough about spawn points you can avoid bad spawns and help get your teamate out of a trap. I'm not even near that level yet, but it is possible.

Yeah I little long-ranged though! Just wondering if you think it is a good idea to have it really close-ranged because it teaches you what situation the weapon is for (you can't just hit people from 10m back)... then again, convenience over skill? I don't know...

This discussion is great! It must be the first time people have been able to talk about the differences between halo:ce and halo2 without a huge flame war. The only use for h2s.com is a publicity stunt now! I don't see why we should draw a line between h1 and h2 players - we're all human :) the guy your flaming might be someone you've met personally who lives down the road for all you know...

I spend a lot of my time on Live in Halo 2, yeah we shouldn't draw a line between h1 and h2 players, the shotgun isn't the same though in Halo 2.
