Thos,

That seems to be more of an original concept for a Flood form, done back in 2000.

Hey would we encounter engineers in HAL0 2. Also would they do anything in the game besides target pratice. (ie: keep one alive and they would unlock weapon cash doors or open a shortcut.)

After HALO was destroyed, MC, Locklear (the ODST) and Sgt A.J. Johnson along with couple of others took over a Covenant Flagship.

Now this ship did not have a lot of elites. But it had a crap load of Engineers. They did not care who the humans were, they actually took orders from the humans.
One of the Engineers actually fixed MC's shields. (but Sgt J shot him between the eyes, he shot him because the engineer had fixed chief's shields and now knew about the new/superior technology).

So there is no point in Killing the engineers. (and if you break something ,they get pissed..and will start fixing it)

so say in HALO 2, you wanna piss a engineer off, shoot the controls - break equipment, so on...

One of the missions in HALO 2 (I am guessing) is going to be capturing a Prophet. ;)

The Forerunner were an ancient race of Humans. They were advanced...so advanced that they killed themselves. The flood virus basically made the human race extinct and totally wiped out the Earth.

You know what would be interesting to see. It would be interesting to see one of the Halos fired...or how it looks like when it's fired. I know it's impossible since all life would be destroyed, but...

Also, it seems as if the prophets are the weakest species. They are just using the muscles and numbers of the otehr species to their advantage. It's obvious that their theology is bogus. Will the rest of the Covenant rank-and-file wise up to the maniupulations of the Prophets?

Halo 2 is a goddam soap opera...with guns...a gun opera.

Well this has nothing really new for me. That is, because I've been in and around Halo way too much. I'm surprised that a chunk of you are surprised by some of the stuff that was in the article. Especially with the way the different Covenant species act and such. Oh yeah, the Jackals are going to be very fun. Can't wait.

Now for those of you confused on all of this, read the 1st and 3rd books. Read them a good three times each. That will explain alot ofr you on the Covenant.

Fun fun.

In the third Halo novel, it states that the Brutes are a type of Imperial Guard, and they easily are as strong as Hunters (one is able to overpower his Mjolnir suit.) At first the MC feels that they do not pose any real threat because they haven't been used in any major military operation. Later he finds out that this thought was a gross miscalculation.

Just a thought that popped into my head...
In halo 2, earth will be hard pressed by like all the covenant in the universe, so I don't really see humans beating the covenant in battle. So then, what if MC, or cortana, suceeded in convincing e.g. the elites to turn on the prophets. Since the elites are the miitary leaders of the covenant, they would probably take the grunts and jackals with them in the rebellion. It also said that hunters only speak to elites, so they could probably join as well.
The brutes answer to the prohets directly, and engineers only speak to prophets, so the prophets would probably get those two species on their side. Now, if these two groups would fight eachother, the picture would be like this: elites have the bulk of the military forces, but the prophets have all the important temples and other holy places and the technology. The elites would perhaps be hesistant to destroy the holy places, and the brutes are probably good enough fighters to effectively defend the temples in such a way thet the only way to defeat them would be to galss the temples. During this covenant civil war, Mc could either join with one of the sides, or go trvelling space in order to find ways to combat the covenant when they organize against humanity again. During his travels, he could perhaps find the new halo ring etc.
Now if I have missed some vital point here, know that i have not read the books, so everything i know about this i have read in spoiler threads and such. Don't flame me about this

It was actually Lieutenant Haverson that shot the enigineer between its 6 eyes, not Sergeant Johnson. And in case anyone is wondering where all this info is coming from then I would suggest you read Halo: First Strike :)

They also had the ability to determine the Spartans location when said Spartans used their comms to talk to one another, which the MC quickly learnt not to do :)

Unfortunetly, that would never happen. In the books, the Elites have an almost fanatical sense of military honor. O.K. REALLY fanactical. They are quite like the ancient chinese, who would rather die horribly than betray their cause. Sure it would be awesome to see the Covenant turn against eahc other. But....alas...it is not possible. And I for one would rather rain down DOOM upon their helpless and squealing(roaring, goin' WORT WORT) corpses with massive badness....
P.S. Dear BUNGIE, don't take pistols out of Halo 2,
Love,

Hey Dude,(yes the guy named Dude)! Why do you discriminate left-handed?I are left-handed too, thats may be special, but cool, and it says we are fewer than right-handed,but the science says we are smarter/wiser.Some of the genies in history was left-handed,Einstein and Newton i think.
So think before you write, you could hit someone with words and/or sentences like that!!!!!

Driven to distraction. ^_^

Th thing I find most interesting:

Prophet ceremony and purpose is not generally known to the Covenant population, most of whom simply trust in their wisdom to further the goals and territory of the Covenant.

Unquestioning trust in the prophets leads me to believe the prophets probably have some kind of hidden motive, maybe they know more about the forerunners than they are letting the other covenant know. They are certainly in a position to know that kind of thing.

Anyway, this new article (thanks to Bungie by the way) makes me think that there will be some kind of twist in the plot of Halo 2 regarding the prophets and what they are/arn't telling the covenant.

WTF!!!!!! I am confused about prophets. In first strike, in the last epilouge chapter, it say that a prophet could rip a hunter to pieces. It says and i quote"The creature was a magnificent specimen of vicousness. The prophet marveled at it's near -unthinking potential for mayhem;the rippling muscle under its dull gray skin could tear apart any opponent-even a mighty hunter. It was a perfect instrument." So in bungie's news about a prophet that is lacked physical strength. So bungie could you PLEASE explain which one is correct.

Hey Frankie, cool article. I also read your weekly update every week. But i was thinking, in the book Fall of Reach, Master Chief shoots a grunt in the back where his methane tank was, and it killed the grunt because it ran out of methane to breath. I think you should be able to do that in Halo 2. What about you guys?

You are misreading, the prophet is talking/thinking about a BRUTE.

also...

We do know that the prophets have claimed to be the descendents of the forrunner, and that their origin is the forrunners' home world. From the flood book, p. 6: " Like all members of his caste, 'Fulsamee knew that the Prophets had evolved on a planet which the mysterious truth-givers had previously inhabited, and then, for reasons known only to the ancients themselves had subsequently abandoned."

The prophets know alot more about what is REALLY going on. I believe they are using the other alien races to get what they want. If the truth was uncovered, that they are not descendents, or that they actually have been lying to the cove, I'm sure a civil war would erupt.

I'm sure that is what will happen
