I'm trying to become an '04, but it's not working too well."

Backstory;

I was playing some Modern Warfare 2, i swapped out the disks. Nothing out of the ordinary.

When the game began to boot up from the dash, my disk drive slowed and basically stopped. My screen went a bright pink/magenta color. I started FLIPPING OUT.

Shut off the Xbox, turned it back on expecting some sort of a red ring. The same thing happened, the disk drive booted up, slowed, and stopped. The screen went magenta and i flipped out even more.

I shut the xbox off, swapped out the disks [mw2 and odst], and was met with the IW intro. Swapped the disks out again, and ODST booted up fine.

Is this a sign of my Xbox breaking? Did ODST do some lasting damage? let me know!

Trying to say a game broke your Xbox is absurd. All I can say is that your Xbox is breaking. I got the RRoD while playing MW2, but I don't blame the game itself.

In a few days, you will probably get an E74 error. I got this weird colors thing a year or so ago after switching between Halo 3 and Fallout 3. For me, it started out just like you said and got more and more frequent until it died.

Blame your console, not the disk.

Then there are the people who poop in the mash potatoes. Those people get launched out on their asses.

That happened to me with Madden 06 (I think). Playing some Texas Hold em', popped in Madden, and blam. Dead.

This same thing happened to me about 2 years ago, but the console itself lasted for about another year after that.

If nothing else, blowing the dust out of the disc tray might help a little bit.

I'm sorry sir but I'm afraid your console has inoperable cancer.

Same thing happened to me two months ago when me and a friend were playing An Army of Two sequel. My Xbox died shortly after. Better hope it's under warrantee or start looking for a local repair shop.

On the battlefield the most important person isn't who's giving the orders, but whos doing them. Thus one should always watch after one's allies, and keep them alive so they may keep you alive.

The weapon you hold doesn't have the skill, the person holding it does. Well done out there!

That's happened to me to. That is indeed a sign that your xbox is near death. I'm not too sure but guessing from what happened but it has to do with something about disc reader not being able to fully read a disc, then I guess it gets lazy and stops working altogether.
However my screen didn't turn magenta. THAT did happen, but it was an another time. Turns out my HD cables for the xbox died. Getting new audio/video cables could be a good investment, but you may also want to wait till it stays magenta to ensure money isn't wasted.
