Prologue
Punt'yaat raised a balled fist as the giant door directly ahead of him hissed. Within moments, it was open, and he led his firesquad into the next room. The room was a large chamber, constisting of a clear, artifical walkway, a giant platform full of terminals on the far side. He looked to his team--three of the best warriors in all of the Naadir species. They were tall, in the ancestrial armor, not a section of their body uncovered. They wore helmets, a black, ominous visor on the front for them to see through. Xeve'naar, his second in command, nodded her nimble head.
In return, Punt'yaat did the same. There was a still quiet as the squad mulled over what had to be done. Looking down, Punt'yaat noted the key on his belt. "Hold this position," he told them, cries of hunger and lust roaring from behind he and his team. "No matter what, do not let the parasite through. Buy me the time I need."
Silence again. And then Xeve'naar nodded. "Understood, commander," she said, hefting an object. With the flick of her wrist, the object sparked into life, two blades of a bluish-whitish tint emerging from either side. She turned, as did the rest of the team, awaiting the parasite--as well as certain death.
Punt'yaat gazed at her a bit longer through his helmet and spun on his heel, breaking into a sudden sprint. Before too long, plasma fire could be heard from behind, but he did not look back. The terminals on the far side of the walkway began to near with each passing step, the ancient symbols of the Naadir dancing above them. Moments later, he reached it, and set to work immediately.
His delicate fingers raced across the command terminal with speed and grace. And then, a hand went for his belt. He grabbed the key, pulling it free. He then turned around, making sure he was clear of the parasites. They still fought his squad at the door, but Xeve'naar was all that stood, cutting as many as she could down with her blade. Punt'yaat blinked slowly, and he know what had to be done. The parasite must die here, he told himself. Without a moment more of hesitation, me brought the key down, fitting it into place among the terminal. Afterwords, a panel formed, and he placed his hand on it, applying weight.
Lights flashed, and his vision went black.
Death had consumed him--as well as every other lifeform in the galaxy.
