I'm a 15 year old stuck in the middle of nowhere. Machinima director, screenplay writer, novelist, jazz musician, and Photoshop junkie.

I know this thread has been repeated a little bit, but I still can't get over the fact that there is no stealth element in this game. I mean, if there was no silencer on the weapons, I would worry about the stealth element. But it seems that the suppressors are just there for cosmetic purposes.

Example 1: I come across a group of sleeping Grunts. I shoot one in the head with my silenced pistol at long range, then all of the grunts suddenly wake up and run all over the place in fear.

But you're sleeping. You wouldn't hear the silence.

Contrary to popular belief I do NOT live under a bridge.

Yeah there kind of pointless. It would be a lot more fun to actually have silenced weapons.

It's not technically a silencer, It's a supressor. No matter what your not going to get a gunshot to be silent you can only supress the noise and muzzle flash. The point of a supressor really is to make it sound like something else so as to not tip people off to where you are.

That part is still lacking from ODST but some in some cases supressed weapons can get to be as loud as a car door slaming. and if I were an alien looking for humans to kill anything that loud would be investigated.

Though i admit the Pistol should be alot quieter and not wake grunts...

Yeah, silencers are sure silent.

You still get an echo and the sound of a Grunt kitting the ground would still make noise.

im really starting to feel like everything this game promised has been a big joke. suppressed weapons for sneakier game play. sandbox gameplay with no linear path to follow. weaker soldiers cant mow through enemies like a spartan would. exclusive maps only available with purchase of odst. exclusive reach beta invite only available through purchase of odst.

all of the missions are completely linear, with the exception of mombasa streets which is linear in disguise. it feels easier to mow through covenant as an odst. sneaking means taking a path around enemies instead of using undetectable weapons to thin the herds while using cover that conceals you visually instead of blocking incoming weapon fire.

dont get me wrong, i enjoyed odst and if it had some type of matchmaking i would play it twice as much, but if youre going to make a game that puts an emphasis on teamwork, maybe you should make it convenient to find a team.

odst vent over. time to go back to fuming about regular h3.

There is a stealth element in ODST. Maybe not much with suppressed weapons but you can do many things to kill a group of enemies coming towards you without them even noticing. Sometimes, you can jump on ledges and then then they pass, assassinate them all... other times you could sneak around them while killing them one by one.

i feel like 500 years in the future humanity will have made some progress when it comes to suppressor technology.

i could see assassinating one person out of 5 and getting away with it but then to backslap the remaining 4? the AI can hear suppressed weapons from a great distance while asleep but they cant hear a friend getting punched and the body falling to the ground right next to them when they are on patrol...

you do know that while the gun won't make noise, the noises from 1. the bullet hitting the grunt 2. the bullet hitting the grunts armor 3. the bullet hitting th ground after passing through the grunt, and 4. the grunt groaning (and emptying it's bowels) as it dies.
