Subject: I didn't think I'd pull out this much hair while Playing.

Dr. Angelo, PhD.

A few weeks ago I began taking the challenge of playing ODST's campaign on Legendary by myself. I didn't think it'd be much of a challenge since half the time you're playing as the Rookie, in which case that you could avoid a few battles here and there. Plus the campaign is helleva' lot shorter than H3's, so I thought I'd be able to beat this thing in less of a day.

So far I've been eating my words. Some skirmishes are so mind-numbingly difficult that I feel like a dumb-ass for even walking into it, minus carrying the wrong choice of weapons.

Also, Engineers almost make the game next to impossible to proceed through places. It's bad enough it takes three sniper shots to slay a Brute (head shots don't even phase them), but no, let's slap on a over-shield so I can waste even more ammo to get his shield down...

I can't even take the chance of just rage meleeing them. Hell, I can't rage melee anything without leaving myself open for every damn alien to rail-road me relentlessly. It's heart-shattering to watch as you're guy gets blown sky high by Brute Shot rounds, Carbines, and Beam Rifle rounds still lighting him up after he's passed on.

And I'm not even running head on into battle, either. I'm just sneaking around, and they happen to be in my way. So I take a shot, one thing leads to another...

...Ugh, good thing I'm not continuously grinding away at this thing. Anyone else care to share any "Moments" they've had in ODST's Campaign on Legendary?

Yah, I use my map which tells me where they are.

Snipe the engineers 4 times in the head, it works. If you must charge a plasma pistol.

Winner of the 2012 Lurker of the Year award.

You are really going to hate defending the Oni building.

I just got there today.

This is what I did. I gave rockets to Micky and watched as he destroyed everything. I kept a spartan lazer with me and got them while they were in groups.

hardest part for me was on Mombassa streets, i walked around a corner and 2 hunters were sitting there and i only had a sniper and magnum, no grenades

You only need to do mombassa streets once. You don't have to keep doing it after each flashback.

You guys care too much.

Can't be too careful with your company. I can feel the devil walking next to me.

The only trouble I had on Legendary was Buck's gunning on the highway. I had to splatter everything until I got a tank. Banshees were a pain in the rear.

Otherwise, I felt like I could go through the game using the Master Chief, "Run-gun-jump" method. It worked for me.

You have to be Ninja when you're the Rookie.

In other words, be very patient. It's relatively easy to sneak pass Covenant patrols if you take the time to study their patrol patterns.

“Oh, it’s a little bit of everything, it’s the mountains, it’s the fog, it’s the news at six o’clock, it’s the death of my first dog, it’s the angels up above me, it’s the song that they don’t sing, It’s a little bit of everything.”
- Dawes, A little bit of everything

I beat all the levels on legendary EXCEPT one: ONI Alpha Site. It kept pissing me off, once I got into the interior I would get slaughtered. Eventually, after playing for roughly 2 hours I beat it, and feeling a sense of accomplishment, saved and quit (once the next mission started), and went to bed. When I got back on ODST the next day, I saw it didn't say I beat everything on legendary...and when I went to the missions, it also said I hadn't beaten ONI Alpha Site on legendary...

What annoys me is that, before I went to bed, I checked to make sure it said I beat legendary on solo and co-op... grr.

I still haven't gotten around to beating it again.

Keep the hate coming Flood, I can take it. Because I'm the hero the Flood deserves, but not the one it needs right now...and so you'll flame me, because I can take it. Because I'm not a hero. I'm a silent guardian, a watchful protector...jrv2005.

You people are noobs. The first time I put that game into my Xbox I played Solo Legendary, and I beat it in 6-8 hours. In fact, I didn't even play heroic until my friend begged me to a week later when we were playing coop. It's the only reasonably realistic difficulty on ODST, considering you should die just as fast as any other marine. It's not that hard.

1)Take it slow
2)Get a carbine.

Carbine>Any other weapon in the game overall.

Carbine and Plasma pistol > Any other weapon in the game overall.

Fixed.

God, that would make me die a little on the inside...

Haven't cheated. Haven't been banned. There might be a connection there...

Actually, I thought that ODST's Legendary was very easy compared to Halo 3. Solo, not co-op, by the way.

I just made sure that I had a Plasma Pistol and Magnum (or Carbine) on my person at almost all times.

This and killing the scarab on a banshee. Then that last Brute pack you have to kill on Mombasa streets right before you enter Data Hive

annoyingly difficult

  • 03.14.2010 3:35 AM PDT

Every new day is a gift, it's a song of redemption.

The Scarab was ridiculously easy. If you just jet to the Scarab and land on it, you can simply run down the stairs and blow it up with little more than two grenades. It was pretty weak to me...

ONI Alpha Site is easy however the hardest one is Data Hive because Vergil keeps dying on the first battle he is in.

Vehicle whore.

The campaign is easy on Legendary solo until the end of the last mission when Buck guns the Hog. I'm a calm person, but that made me want to punch holes in walls.

  • 03.14.2010 5:30 AM PDT

I did the game solo legendary on my very first run through.

Only segment that was difficult was the warthog run at the end but ONLY the part before you get the gauss 'hog.

Before and after that were easy.

...WOW. I beat the campaign solo in 2 days, after having zero experience soloing legendary before. You guys suck.

Considering I did it solo in 6 hours...

6 Hours is a reference to how long the Halo 3 ODST timeline lasts (excluding the Epilogue and Legendary Ending).
