Thanks for the replies.
To oblivian: I'm just...not going to respond to you on this issues any more. You and your father have your opinion; Mr. Miller and I have ours. We'll just have to agree to disagree. Wait a year, and give us an update...
To Mr. B: good information on the cases but could you clearify? Do you mean that the "old style" cases (i.e. the desktop cases that are designed to sit flat on your desktop under a monitor) are cases to avoid, or do you mean any older cases? I was under the impression that most tower cases have the windtunnel effect you describe because the hot air has more places to go and can filter itself up near the power supply. As the exhaust fans do their thing, the the cold air at lower levels in the case circulates with the hot air, creating a kind of inverted coriolis effect inside the case. If space is an issue there is even a microtower out there now that is almost the same size as a compact desktop.
lofies: It sounds (from your description and if I'm wrong, I appologise) like you have one of these desktop cases. One way in which you might improve performance might be to upgrade to a tower.
Not all towers are created equal however. Check ratings at respected vendor sites about the case you wish to purchase.
To everyone on the temperature question: thanks for the numbers but how did you get them? Is there a program or application that you have? If so, please post the name of the program or the website here and in Mr MA5B's thread "heat monitor programs".
Thank you for the replies
