I want people that have this in there sig to be blacklisted. Its so annoying lately alot of people have been doing it and I can't click on a sig link any more without joining a group. Groups like Chaos Redefined are gaining 100 members a day because all there members put joingroup.aspx in there script. You can look in the classifieds alone and if you go through a few ads you find at least 2 or 3 people that are using this. Its a completely cheap way to boost your member count and is really annoying because then I have to come back and quit the group.

I hate everything, but it's not my fault.

I agree, although I'm not really sure what Bungie can do about it. While I think a mod would be willing to blacklist somebody for pulling a stunt like that, they probably have better things to do than look for that in peoples' sigs.

Like Ghandi said, there isn't much Bungie or the mods could do about it. I guess we will all have to check the links a little better.

what people are doing now is creating posts and making the entire text a link to joingroup.aspx so if you happen to click on it by accident even you have to join.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

Hell there was thread in the septagon where the guy had linksto Halo 3. I clicked it and i was rced to join a group. WTF is that. Cmon mods.

No matter what you do in life, you will disappoint someone.
No matter what you say, you will offend someone.
No matter what you think, someone will think you're an idiot.

Find and eliminate these people.

Well, the link in my sig does take people to the join group thing, but then again my link actually says join. If a mod tells me to change it then I will, but until then I see nothing wrong with it as long as it actually says join in it.

I just think its annoying. Say someone clicks the link to see what ur group is about since u in no way describe it. They press the link wantin some info. Instead you force them to join.

Its a dirty trick.

I wish they could change it so that if you click on "Join this Group," a javascripted pop-up would come up informing you on whether you have to wait to be accepted or you are already in. Same with leaving a group.

I am maxed out on my groups, so I don't have to worry about this. But back when I wasn't in too many groups, I was getting really pissed off when I would think too quickly and click a link that forced me to join a specific group.

Personally, I think what you are doing is misleading. Joining/Leaving a group is totally optional. Why would people join a group without even seeing what it is about anyway?

This is the reason why I don't do this in my signature. I feel that joining a group is optional, and people shouldn't be forced to join a group by clicking a link in a signature without even knowing what the group is about.

Also, you're going to see many signatures that say "Join [insert group name]," so I doubt people will easily be able to tell that the link will force them to join a specific group.

...But that is just my opinion...

At least describe the group.

  • 07.31.2005 8:38 PM PDT

*Sgt

Its not that hard - just look at the bottom as to what the link says. It takes about a whole 0.5 seconds of your life away. And even if you do somehow end up in the group, just leave it. Let it be at that and the losers can wallow in filth in their deserted group *hahahahah*

One of the reasons I don't find it that bad is that you can't really tell what a group is about by it's front page. Sure, on some you can, but most of what people will care about is in the forums part, which can only be viewed once you're a member. So by doing this it lets them into the forums and they can really check out the group, not just the homepage. If they think that the group isn't worth being in then it takes another click and they're back out.

Got a report? Use the report tool or send a pm.
Chairleg Productions presents: 'Console Wars' and 'Games as Art?' (also on Halo Waypoint).

I posted this exact thread becausei was also annoyed. The only thing you can do is look for the link appearing in your browser. In IE you can look in the bottom left. But yes, i would like a ban of these links.

Achronos could probably ban that specific text in posts and signatures. making -blam!- appear instead messing them up.

No matter what you can't defend it becuase it was never suppose to be done as it's just as bad as taking advantage of bugs in the system.

The new philosophy is members bring activity so more members is better. Anyone that doesn't believe in the philosophy is oldschool and a dying breed.

Not all members have the ability to "read" the links in the status bar. AOL (if I'm not mistaken, correct me politely if I am) does not have the ability to show links and also some other browsers. I agree with the banning of the "joingroup.aspx" links. Though you do have the ability to leave if you accidently click the link, it's the fact that you were forced to join to begin with.
