It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

Sweeet the mods care.

Even though they're not technically breaking rules? or are they? i was under the impression that having it in somewhere like a signature was fine. (much to my dismay)

I guess if it was in a signature, it would be fine. But lately, people are making hidden links in their posts that force you to join their groups. This is a bannable offensive, IMO, since people are misleading people with wrong information.

I guess this is kind of like those "brain-eating" links. They're okay in signatures (I think, I could be wrong though), but you can expect your post to be edited/locked if you put it on the forums.

-------------------------------

I think the best way to fix it is to replace the "joingroup.aspx" with a javascripted pop-up that informs you if you are in the group or not. That way, no one would be able to copy the link and force other people to join groups. I really hope Achronos could do something like that.

Yeah, GameJunkieJim had that same idea, and i think it would certainly be worth thinking about.

Also, I wish those stupid brain eating links were a bannable offence even in signatures! They're soo annoying!

Thats pretty annoying too. Sigs are meant to say about your groups and the things you want other people to see. There was this guy yesterday in the classifieds that said preview the new Halo 3 shotty. I clicked it and i joined the group "snipen your heads off". The guy who posted also had a link to a -blam!- site in his sig. He was also bumping his post. Backlistings???

No matter what you do in life, you will disappoint someone.
No matter what you say, you will offend someone.
No matter what you think, someone will think you're an idiot.

Find and eliminate these people.

I've changed the link in my sig. If the mods decide that it is bannable to put it in your sig (or anywhere) then I'll leave it just going to the group home page. But if they decide it isn't bannable I'll put it back in, just make it more obvious that clicking it will make you join. I'll also put a link to the homepage for those who don't want to join right away. Nothing to do except wait for the mods to come to a decision now...

I've got a link in my signiture that brings people to there own profile but there's been a warning on it for about a month because i kept getting flaming pm's even from people without a gamertag link. I created my link when somebody decided to post someones stats in zanzibar and called them rubbish so i directed people to my link to really see the worst player of course some got the idea and others didn't. My reply to the pm's is usally why would you try to single somebody out as being a bad player if you cant accept the fact that somebody might pick on you next time. The worst halo2 player doesn't lack skill he lacks the sense to treat people with respect, the worst halo2 player is the one who abuses and annoys other players because of the fact there differant or from another country.

Yes, and anyone that tells you different is wrong.

A shame me thinks. It used to be about the quality of the members.

For some of us, like me, it still is Josher. In my opinion having 500 inactive members only means you were not good enough to keep them interested enough to stay and post.

Its all about the numbers isn't it?

Yes, and anyone that tells you different is wrong.

You're wrong. Numbers are inconsequential. You'll find that all future developments in the bungie.net group system will be designed for quality over quantity. If that necessitates reducing the maximum group membership or other similar limits (theoretically), I wouldn't hesitate to make that change if it improved the quality of the groups.

I still believe the more members you have the more active your group is. I am not trying to force this on anyone else I am just stating my opinion

  • 08.01.2005 6:45 PM PDT

I hate everything, but it's not my fault.

If you have more members it is easier to be active, since there are more people to post. However, the two things do not necessarily correlate, and if you look at it in terms of ratios, the larger chapters are most likely less active than a smaller one. So even though many larger chapters may have more posts per day than a small chapter, don't act like just because there are over 1,000 people in a group, that makes it active. Because it doesn't.

Thank you for sticking up for Quality>Quantity Achronos.

Yeah but if 200 out of thoughs members are active then the chapter is active and has alot posts per day.

YOU CAN HAVE PROTECTION!
if you think the link is suspicious, do this:
1. right-click on the link
2. press properties
3. it will say the link name. if it has joingroup.aspx in it, DONT CLICK IT!

protection is good.

Good to see your on our side on this one. Bigger groups are not automatically more active. Now, don't get us all wrong here Guardian, we are not putting down your Group, but I have been to groups with less than Half the members you have and just as much activity. This is a prime example of why Mmore Members does not equal more Activity. You also have to atke into account quality of activity. Alot of the large groups, not pointing any fingers, are active but most of the posts are random blurbs hat contribute nothing to the communty and they rarely hold good discussions. The fact is, it always was, always is, and always will be about Quality not Quantity. Anyone who thinks otherwise is heading for the wrong goal and therefore will have a less succesfull Chapter in the long run.

(And yes, they are Chapters, not groups)

If people catch others posting links to pornographic material in their sigs, notify a moderator asap so the user can be perma banned.
