Mister Coffee
How can looking at them taking their picture or the smile on someones face say its coming out on the 24th. Maybe hes smiling because he just finished a portion of the game that he was working on for a long time. Maybe his favorite baseball team won thier game. Maybe he got laid. So he smiled WOW. Also, maybe that professional photographer was just doing pictures for a story about "Making of Halo 2" or maybe their pictures for your beloved Extra disc. Just looking at a vidio doesnt say anything.
I was reading into the scene I was presented. To much coincidence, that is my arguement with the photographer. Something doesn't look right with the situation.
My argument with the everything I said previously has to do with a little "smoke screen" of sorts. I'm saying a lot of the Halo 2 development we have been reading about, has been done already, and the news we read is approximately 2 months old. I'm not saying Halo 2 has shipped already, but I believe that many units are ready to ship. It is very cheap, and very easy to ship mass orders of ONE product overnight, from one side of the US to the other.
Another thing Pre-orders of Halo 2 are around 700k right now I believe. If I was the PM for Microsoft on the Halo 2 project, and I had the choice between bumping up 3rd Quarter Profits or 4th Quarter Profits, I would do Q3, EASILY. That means all the pre-ordered sets get paid for and money transfers happen in August (i.e. your money from pre-order gets to MS b/c you have official recieved or been mailed your product). See, the longer the pre-ordered sets wait, the longer the money sits OUTSIDE, Microsoft's hands. The longer people wait, the more time people have to change their minds. Now, you could say that "hey Bungie fans would never cancel their pre-order". Bull-blam!-. People change their minds on more critical decisions everyday, don't think for a second that they wouldn't over a $50-$60 video game.
If I was Microsoft, I would think, Ok I'll make a bunch of money off the pre-orders in August, and then when Christmas shopping roles around, I will make a bunch of money in November as well. You know how people make money? Because they sell when buyers are ready.
But, oh well. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong and I wait two more months. Big deal. But it was fun bringing up the argument. I understand your frustrations as well Benttwig, your argument is well recieved, minus your bastard like sarcasm on the photographer. ;-)
