Never hate your enemy. It effects your judgment.
One sweet summer day, about in the middle of June in the suburbs of central Texas, a 9 year old child named Jon answered a call from his best friend. He answered and talked with his friend about the two's interest at the time, videogames. (Knowing not that these games would engulf and change and evolve their lives, as well a the lives of others for years to come). They talked and talked until a sleepover was arranged and Jon was hosting. They were talking about new Xbox games and what games to bring. Through the chitter chatter of games that Jon's friend had, tossing up names like Farcry: Instincts, Red Dead: Revolver, and Unreal, one special slot was saved for a new game called Halo. But this game was M-rated, and many questions were asked and the integrity of Jon's friend tested. The talk ended with a solid agreement: Halo will come. When Jon's friend arrived at his house, he let him in and helped with his bags, but handled one with care; the one with Halo in it. Little knowing of the event to come, they put in the disk and started the game. When the music began, and the game started, it set the setting for an event that would change the life of Jon forever. When the two were packing down the halls of the Pillar of Autumn, filling the putrid alien scum with led and eventually reaching the last life boat. As the adrenalin spike was up, Jon witnessed the crash of the life boat that contained the Master Chief and as he walked out of the hunk of metal, his heart was shattered into dust. Tears streaming from his eyes, the beauty and serenity of the computer generated world was enough to send Jon off the edge. But he had to continue, destroying the alien slime, saving the lost marines, and housing the brilliant A.I. named Cortana all at the same time. This idea, this game, was the seed of a vast and majestic empire. From a child, Jon grew up under the shade and well knowing of the gaming philosophy, shaping him into a better gamer as well as a better person. Often known as 'That kid who plays Halo', he was battered and beaten by the ridicule, mocking, and teasing of those around him, but his allegiance was still with Halo. Soon after, Jon's best friend even fell out of his love for Halo, but his allegiance was still with Halo. But like a fire, is passion of Halo led to the conversion of most of his friends to Halo instead of the other sizable series at the time. Soon, Halo was the stuff, it was the cornerstone of FPS and its reign was growing at a rapid pace. Now, John and his best friend get together every once in a while just to talk and play Halo like good old times. With all of the books, games, and access to what he hadn't when he was a child; internet, Jon enjoys watching fellow fan-made movies and videos as well as reading would be scripts and player created content, and replaying that one part of Combat Evolved that had changed his life so long ago. That is my story. Thank you, Bungie, for making my day every day.
