Reach beats GoW!
Reach beats CoD!!
Reach beats everything!!!
I don't know if anyone has had the same feeling that I've had in ODST. The Campaign for the game completely changed my perpective on the Halo saga and has made me replay the Campaign of all 3 other games to relly capture the story of Halo.
At first I was one of those many that after beating the campaign in Legendary found it very hard to beat and interesting, but lacked some storytelling. Then, I realized the depth that the game had; the music, the environments, the sounds, and the background. The environment is one of the things that captured me so much.
New Mombasa is re-made for this game something that kind of seemed like a stupid decision, but later on turned to be for the better. The city's architecture and story along ODST was just undescribable. It makes you wonder, what if I lived there? Unlike other games, the city and environment really makes you feel the loss of the humans that lived there and if Halo 3 had been as incredible as ODST was, it would have had the best campaign of all Halos. This is one thing that has changed since Halo: CE. The game made you feel scared and got you thinking what could happen if the Covenant reached Earth? What if the Flood escaped Halo? In ODST the question is why is the Covenant attacking only here, of all places on Earth. Though many people who have paid attention to the games and know why the Covenant is attacking, you get that question as you're playing along.
The city almost feels real, like it could be inhabited and full of people. You can imagine people going to the train station, to the supermarket, to their office high above in a building. The human factor in the story is highlighted. The sense of loss in the game is the city itself. A beautiful city that has been destroyed and its primary landmark, the New Mombasa Space Elevator, has also been destroyed.
The music is also a plus. The tone is soft and very natural and really feels like the vibe of the city is captured in the music alone.
Now, put all these elements together to the Halo equation and you've got a Halo that is different, but in a very good and satisfying way. Just imagine: you could really picture yourself living in the city, and that is something that I absolutely loved in ODST. One other thing that makes it better is a little bit of backstory called Sadie's Story, which tells how a young girl goes through a lot to try to get to her dad, who is one of the chief programmers of the Superintendent. She lives in Old Mombasa, but the story ties in a little bit with the story of the game itself. I would love if Bungie made a way to explore openly the whole entire city, maybe even with people. It would be the most amazing thing in the world.
I hope that Bungie learns from all the good things such as these and applies them into Reach. If they do, with all the existing features that Halo Reach will have will make it the best game ever.
Let me know what you think about all this.
