I know most of you people have heard of bumping and witnessed it, and it gets so annoying it's bannable. Thing is, this is hard for fafics, if they cannot bump, they will have a hard time getting thier glorios wrk of writing noticed.

So that both groups are happy(the nijas and fanfiction people)it should instead that in a thread, when you edit your post, it is automatically "unybumped" without another post haveing to be made.

IIt has another advantag, in a debating thread, when a person figures out he screwed up his post, once he edits it, it gets "unybumped" without another extra post and people will notice it.

Let me see if this is what you are saying.

You're saying that if the maker of the thread edits his/her post, the thread gets bumped to the top of the forum?

Yeah, it eliminates that extra post, and gnome, how does this not make sense?

Because its doing the exact same thing as the "extra" post does.

But its not spam if you have something that adds to the thread in a Non-spam way (That just confused me)

Here's what i think on whats a bump and whats spam:
I use to count the difference between a bump and a spam by pages its fallen back on, such as page 5 would count as spam, but with the new hotness i go by days from the last post (3-4 is not spam if you have something remarkable to add even if you have the last post) I don't know I'm tired so if this makes no sense then just ignore it.

It would be much easier if all threads on page 7 onward were simply arranged so they can't be responded to. Doing it the way you said would just make things worse.

In that case, I don't think that'd be a good idea. People could just keep editing their posts.

Maybe if Bungie made it so a thread could not be bumped if someone made 2 posts in a row.

Bumping is not allowed in these forums. If a mod sees a bumped thread it would more than likely be locked.

if people don't read your fanfic, it might be for a good reason.

:)

Anyway, this is why i supported the idea for a FanFic forum. Obviously not the easiest job or top priority job, but worth thinking about i think.

So you're saying that all those posts after page 7 should be locked? Not a bad idea, but then why not delete every thread? It would have the same effect. But then that would render the search feature pointless.

Not deleted, just impossible to respond to. It's not like you'd be losing anything, all old posts that are brought back to life are soon locked anyways, so why not fix the problem before it starts?

Although i really dont like his grammar and spelling, im going to have to go with HaloFighter92 here. His FanFic is actually good. Thats the thing. Its good and he has talent. The reason people might not read it is because there are only so many posts you can make about something like that, eventually, once a "OMFG PWNZ HALO 3 NOOBEESE!!!!1" thread pops up and gets spammed by morons his story will move to the back. Thats what happens it has nothing to do with people not having any desire to read fan fiction. At least thats my impression. Anyway im not sure about your idea HFighter92. It could be only effective in the Fan Fic forum and idiots would still spam it.

Now that i've had some sleep, the problem i see with this is that once someone gets blacklisted all their threads are *EDITED* to show the Moderator Notice, when that happens the first page of the forum will be filled with locked threads from a banned user.

I recommend fanfiction.net for all your fanfic needs.

Thing is... the vast majority of information on a forum will be ephemeral. That's the nature of the beast; that's why it's called a "forum" and not a "knowledge archive" or some other moniker that would suggest more permanence for the material. There's no problem with wanting your fanfiction to be read, but I would suggest that instead of putting it on the forum and bumping it repeatedly, simply archive it at fanfiction.net, your personal web space, or some other location, and then keep the link to it in your sig (as you've done). If I as another user am interested in reading some fanfiction, I'll chase the link; if not, I won't.

It's true that the rate of scroll on the forums unfortunately means that some thoughts get lost merely because they were posted at the wrong time of day. But I would actually be in favor of ways to cause less bumping to happen, not more. Bumping only increases the rate at which new posts (hopefully corresponding to brand-new, never-before-seen, truly thread-worthy ideas... hey, stop snickering!) get smacked off of page 1.

But then why have those posts in the first place if you can't respond to them? Deleting them would have the same effect: nothing to respond to. And the reason the old posts are locked is because some half-wit posts "bump" every time. With the addition of a search feature people will actually begin to add something constructive to the end of the threads.

But a thread posted a year ago about Halo 2 doesn't need some idiot posting and saying "Duuuuuuh, haven't you played Halo 2? You can do it in Halo 2! LOLZ"

Possibly. Even when (damn I almost put "if" there but remembered to change it) the search feature is implimented, I can't say for sure if people will still view bumping as a bad thing. I'll leave it up to Bungie and the mods to decide. Also, I said earlier that we would just lock the posts because there might be some old-timers wanting to look back to earlier days, and so forth.
