I stated earlier in a different board that "awesome new game" doesn't sound like what EGM would call H2. Neither would they state "that everyone will be dying to play". They would make an overstatement if it really was H2.

Then again, perhaps it really is and they don't want to give themselves away.

"So really, we've got nothing to lose... "

EXACTLY. The worst case scenario is it comes out when it originally was scheduled to.

It's a win-win situation!

I say that if it comes out the 9th then the game will be better because they got 2 more
Im saying that in that time they could maybe... add a new weapon, make a new gametype, have an extra cinema. They could do a lot in 2 months

I hear ya. Maybe finish the ambient life--insects, etc. that Frankie said may have to be cut due to time constraints.. WAIT! No, maybe it was due to eating up the memory that it might have to be cut. I dunno. But trust Bungie on this point: THEY are deciding when it'll be released, and it won't be released until they've been able to do everything they wanted to do with it.

There is no subtitle that we know of either. Not that they would keep that quiet till the release, but you would think something might have surfaced by now.

"wide awake and physical" doesn't sound like an advertising campaign but "this medium will metastatize" does (medium is the plural of media). So August 10th could be when the advertising campaign starts, and the game could release 14 days after that.

NO, dude, you got it backwards--medium is singular and media is plural. I can see why you might get confused because we're so accustomed to calling the news "the Media", like it's a single entity. But anyway the "medium . . . metastasiz[ing]" must surely be the circulation of a disk, and not mere advertising. It just would be imprecise otherwise and that's not Bungie's style.

Thanks for that, they say

"and watch for our top-secret, world-exclusive cover story! Can't tell you what it is now, but in a few weeks you'll be able to say helllo to an awsome new game that everybody will be dying to play"

Look, halo 2 inst a "new game" we and the press have known about it for 3 years., i mean yes we havent played it yet, but i wouldnt say its a new game in the sense that it hasnt been announced yet. Thats what i get from the above EGM quote , sounds like they are talking about something we havent heard of yet. Another thing, ALL, i repeat ALL the game magazines hit newstands aug. 24th. that is always the date for october issues. nothing special there. I DO THINK that something big will happen on aug 24, but i think that so far no one has been correct in what they think it is.

Well, "new" also refers to when a game is freshly released: "Magnus Studios just came out with their new game..". Also, if they're announcing H2 big news relating to the ILB countdown, then no doubt they are in cohoots with Bungie to this extent and are using intentionally ambiguous and perhaps slightly odd phraseology in order to keep folks guessing.

In the alternative, I read on one of these posts that Half-Life 2 is being released in Sept., and I know that Doom 3 hits Xbox in October. But if I were a betting man I'd put my money on H2-related news. You know, come to think of it, none of those are "new" games either, so that lends greater credence to the Halo 2 theory--I mean, none of the other publishers have yet to create a buzz by using secrecy in the way that Bungie has, so the use of "new" to throw us Halo fans off now seems more likely on second thought.

Ok, so dont flame me if im wrong or if this has already been posted, but wasnt there at one point a question asking if there was going to be a demo, in the FAQs? The answer was no, definitly not. But if im not mistaken, that question/answer is gone now. Personally i think it will be a demo that comes out on the 24th, not the full release. I mean, dont get me wrong, the full release would be awesome, but i doubt it will happen.

I agree only in part. It's either a full release or a multiplayer level, but NO WAY Bungie is releasing a SP level BEFORE the entire game's released. Look, they've repeatedly said that the SP remains the heart of H2, and look how tightly they've kept it under wraps to-date. In contrast, everyone's seen Zanzibar MP, and on the 28th it's open to play at the Penny Arcade Expo. If it's a demo, it simply HAS to be MP. No way they would risk diminishing the impact of playing the SP upon game's release by first issuing a SP demo. It could jeopardize the storyline, along with how the Covvies now move/attack, the new AI, etc.

A GAME DOESNT HAVE TO BE FINSIHED TO BE RATED

God, when will people get the message. You can show a game very early in devolpment as long as you show the most bloodly, horrible and the most bad language. As long as you don't make anything more bloodly etc. your fine. The ERSB rating has nothing to do with an early release. SO STOP USING IT AS ONE.

Yes it does. In two individual issues of EGM there were re-reviews for games:

Serious Sam: Croteam(I think?) sent EGM the wrong disk, which was allegedly a near-final build. So they had to re-review the final version when it came.

NCAA Football 2003: There was a disk sent to EGM that was supposed to be the final build, and was until a few days before the release, until EA decided to pull the plug on an animation that had the players pull the field goal pole down.

EDIT: Oops.

Thank you, i agree, we should all be excited, but definitely a lil more reserved in our anticipations, we might get let down. nothing may happen significant on aug 24th or maybe not.

It's funny how you ignored my arguements that proof the game that has a rating to be finished and how the beta in the words of Shiska is NOT done. Ironic you would skip over that though =).

Well, for those of us who have nothing better to do than speculate, "Wide Awake and Physical" is believed to be the title of the first part of the demo level, probably occuring on New Mombasa, as it has nealy the same meaning as "Reveiller" (First subtitle in The Pilllar of Autumn) which is french for "To wake"

WAIT A MINUTE!?! I'm a strong believer in an August 24th realease... but then, why would they have a special preview on the 28th for penny arcade... who wants to go to Washington to play a demo of a game that already came out... or why would anyone go to washington to play a demo of a game that already has a demo released into the public

There is no way it is going to come out on august 24th. First of all frankie said that the game was still broken and untextured. Even if they could do all that they would still have to make millions of games within 24 days. And third of all the store managers of video game retailers would have to be notified in order to make all the arrangements for the advertising, midnight buys, etc. I wish it could come out earlier but unfortunately it won't happen. Also there are probably tons of people that will wait to reserve it one week before and bungie and microsoft will not have as many buys.
P.S. Halo 2 will have the new xbox live updates on it in order to play with all of the stuff they have planned for xbox live and halo 2

Excellent point! I wish people wouldn't speculate and be soo arrogant as they are. I mean speculation is fine but this is getting freaking rediculous. NOVEMBER THE 9TH EARTH WILL NEVER BE SAME

Most everyone seems to have become completely carried away with the speculations and empty hopes, to the point where I wish that Ilovebees.com was never created or heard of. What strikes me as funny is the people who swear on everything holy that the ESRB has to have a finished copy of a game to give it a rating. While North America HAS to have a completed game to rate, England and Germany get a "broken and sometimes un-textured" copy from Frankie to pass judgement on, and not only rate the game for Europe, but do it in only a weekend. Yet after all I've said, I'm sure some of you conspiracy theorists have a perfectly logical explanation for this.

Where is all this "ESRB only rates finished copies" coming from?

There's an article in this month's EGM about how the ESRB works. It states that the publisher sends in VIDEO of most "extreme" parts of the game, they do not PLAY the game, they just watch video footage.

Hence, they DO NOT need a finished version of the game, because they just need a video tape. If all the cinematics and animations are done, then they can rate the game. Bug fixing doesn't mean squat to the ESRB.

It's on page 40 if you don't believe me.
