Bungie Pentathlon - who actually cares ?

Hello all,

I was sitting there playing some LAN with some mates the other night and we got onto a debate regarding the Pillar of Autumn and some odd things we have nocticed about it.

Feel free to post your own points or debate the ones myself and my guys were chatting over, some had simple answers - some made us go "hmmm?"

1 - Why was the bridge in such a poor position...one bolt of plasma and it would of been game over for the entire bridge crew

2 - Why did Capt Keyes keep an unloaded magnum ? Did he enjoy pistol whipping his crew ?

3 - Where were all the other cryo tubes for the other Spartans (that didn't make it back onto the PoA)

4 - Why does the length of the PoA fluctuate - one moment (during your escape) it seems very small, then you are racing several kilometres down its hull in the last level

5 - Why did Cortana not seal off the areas where the Covenent were boarding?

6 - How did that Warthog on the last level come to be up on the roof of the PoA all the way through it's crash landing?

7 - Why has Captain Keyes got a funny lip ? Too much gin? Keyes

Like I said, just silly little things that surprisingly create a lot of debate over !

1. This was explained in one of the books; the PoA is one of the few ship designs to maintain a bridge window.

2. Technically it was loaded. I imagine it was for self defence. You'll have to find ammo as you go.

3. She was stored in the other cryo bays. Remember that Bungie only had one Spartan in the story at that point, even though the Chief is referenced as the last of his kind in the game manual and the box art. There was only one Spartan in cryo anyway, and she, Linda, was jettisoned into space before the PoA crash landed. Although this may conflict with the Elites searching the cryo bays, so she may have been hidden/jettisoned/well guarded beforehand.

4. That's the actual length, it just looks different when you're driving along the recently exposed access tunnels. It's length is in kilometres.

5. She did. Don't you remember all those closing blast doors, forcing you to abandon your marines?

6. There were about 15 Warthogs in the Warthog bay after you exit the service elevator after talking to Foehammer. It's only logical that there be a few 'hogs along the way, considering it's a very long ship.

7. He drinks his father's vintage whisky. I'm not so sure about gin.

3. Probably because the interior art team and the exterior art team didn't communicate clearly enough.

Look at the results!

I never realized how off this was until now. Hmm.

As an officer Keyes had the weapon as a badge of rank more than anything else. If he's not in a combat zone or expecting to leave the ship then it's safer to have personal sidearms unloaded.
Remember the Ft. Bragg shooting? An army base of some 50,000 souls and very, very few of them actually had access to loaded weapons.

Yup, thats what I said in regards to this, pretty awful design - I wouldn't want to stand anywhere near it !

2. Technically it was loaded. I imagine it was for self defence. You'll have to find ammo as you go

I argue that it shouldn't of been loaded as combustibles are not allowed on the Bridge...perhaps there is a more logical reason

3. She was stored in the other cryo bays. Again, this was my thinking. At the time of release there literally was only one Spartan in the "mix" so to speak - glad we think along the same lines.

4. That's the actual length, it just looks different when you're driving along the recently exposed access tunnels. It's length is in kilometres.

I dunno, from the look of the ship to the actual driving time along it - it does feel longer in a 'hog

5. She did. Don't you remember all those closing blast doors, forcing you to abandon your marines?

Good point, looks like we all missed those bits !

6. There were about 15 Warthogs in the Warthog bay after you exit the service elevator after talking to Foehammer. It's only logical that there be a few 'hogs along the way, considering it's a very long ship.

I agreed with this initially, but being picky minded I would of preferred to ride it out of one of the storage pods / bays

7. He drinks his father's vintage whisky. I'm not so sure about gin.

Of course he drinks gin, all sailors do...and Rum
