Any type of Elite, you know there's a reason why they call them "Elites". Plus they are more intelligent.

Actually according to the Covenant Hegemony they are in completely separate spheres. The Covenant, or pact, was formed between the Prophets and the Elites, which although in agreement in search and recon of Forerunner artifacts, they disagree on a great many things and there is a rift between the two races. Brutes work exclusively for the Prophets apparently (according to First Strike or at least they are referenced to as being "Temple Guards." Halo 2 will be the first time during the Covenant war that they are thrust to the forefront of the battle. The reason for that will apparently be a major fixture in the story of Halo 2, or rather the reason for the Covenant's impetus and insertion of the Brutes into battle.

Um, so how does that make Brutes better than the Elites?

I said they are in different spheres. One's not better than the other in terms of rank. Physically during combat there's no way we can determine because we have yet to play the game, but according to the backstory we can saftely say that the relationship between Brutes and Elites is not like the relationships between Brutes and the other Covenant classes. If I were to guess, Brutes and Elites are the same level of rank, but because the Brutes work independantly of Elite commands (under the direct authority of the Prophets as it is infered in the latest novel), I'd say they are the same level rank. Compairing a Brute and an Elite is sort of like comparing the Vice President to the Secretary Of Defense.

So you're saying that they're pretty much even, eh? Well I still say that bronze, Oh I'm sorry, Brawns, are no match for brains.

Which ones have brawn and which have the brain, and read the last chapter of Halo: First Strike before you answer that question.

Obviously the Brutes have brawn becuase of their size, but they don't seem too bright. Did you not see the Brute drive into a wall and explode with the Ghost in the E3 demo?
