guys, they are completely different but on the overall level, they equal out... physicaly Brutes are even more powerful then Elites. in Halo: First Strike not only does a Brute kill a Spartan but when the Master Chief actually grappels with a Brute he says that their muscles are like steel and he is unable, even in his armor, to over power it. MC has grappled with several Elites and physically MC and the Elites almost cancel eachother out but i think MC has a slight advantage. The Elites advantage over the Brutes isnt in their strength one on one but in their leadership ability. An Elite doesnt need to challenge adversaries head on like the Brutes prefer, they can have a whole squad of grunts and Jackals go in first, wearing down the opponents defenses and if they manage to survive that initial assualt they step in to gloriously collect the easy kill.

even though i beleive they are equally dangerous, i know i for one will be alot more worried about my first encounter with a Brute up close and personal then any Elite in Halo 2!

Wow, you're actually saying that the Elites are dumb? Please elaborate.

im just saying being honarbound is cool but if u think about it its stupid

if u think about it they go in for the glory of the battle and they dont want to return without it even if it meens they die when they could have got away ..... i just think that if they could get away and instead they go against imposible odds they're not overly bright

however tacticly speaking they're smart

I think the brute is going to be harder than a hunter to kill(I usually don't use the cheap orange spot unless I'm about to die or am just messing around) The Elites are nowhere near the brutes IMO. The brutes just don't have shields.

it's true that brutes don't have shields but they can take a lot. (in first strike) even without a shield MC fires an entire battle rifle magazine in his belly and it keeps running towards him without stopping for a single second. Brutes physicly overpower MC and even in speed so an elite definently weaker. So i think in the end they will be as annoying as an elite pfffffffffff

I would have to say the brutes are stronger but the elites are close in strength and better at strategy so its kind of even just one prefers brains over brawn

As for their roles of the Brutes and Elite, we can see from the end of First Strike that elites have disdain for the brutes (they're shocked one is allowed to see the High Prophet of Truth). So in the Covenant caste system I strongly believe that the Brutes are at least one step below elites which would explain why brutes are assigned to more menial work like guarding temples instead of waging the glorious campaign against humanity. (Or just that Bungie hadn't the time to put them into the game)

Now, for this thread's prompt, I'd say brutes will be easier to kill than elites, but brutes will pretty much beat any Spartan to death if he gets to close to him. Elites have shielding, which makes them less vulnerable to long range sniping-type weapons (especially on legendary) while brutes will probably be smoked in one clean headshot with the magnum pistol or the battle rifle. On the other hand, in the book Brutes soaked up a LOT of bullets before they would go down whereas elites died in a short burst with the assault rifle.

good job Scipio
of everything on this thread, that made sense.
let me add to that, the Brutes are bigger, heavier, so they don't move as fast as the Elites.

oh and by the way, I am sure Elites are going to be able to jump on vehicles as well.
If the Brutes can do it, why not the Elites. The Elites are more agile, so why not?

I agree with last two entrys completely but I also think that they are close to each other in strength, and that they will be close to one another as far as adversaries go but you will just have to have two seprate sratagies to fight them one you might have to stay away from as far as close combat goes and snipe him but the other you might have to get in close for some dirty work

and that we will have to wait till halo 2 comes out to see wich one works best.

That's a very good question. The Master Chief took out the Brutes quite easily in the 2003 E3 demo, but I do believe there were a few things that helped him. Invincibility, anyone?

You guys realise there is a reason they're called "Elites", and that the gold ones are called "commanders"? Sure the brutes are stronger but think about the Elites, they're the best of the Covenant.

Well it depends what you are talking about. If you talking about whether or not the brute will lead others into combat better and uses better military tactics then the brute would not be better than an elete. but if your talkign about who would win a one on one fight the brute or the elete the brute would win, they are both equally as cunning and smart when it comes to on one combat. But the brute is stronger than the elete and equiped with a more powerful weapon. Even though the eletes have shields that wouldn't even tip the scales into teh eletes favor. Because the brute tooka full clip roared the took the master chief on one on one. The brute bashed master chiefs chileds out with his bare hands that shoudl show you haw strong those brutes really are.

I'm talking 'bout tactical smartness, didn't you see the Brute drive into the wall with the Ghost and explode?(E3 demo)

um u do realize that the covanent are an incredibly religious group of aliens , of we've seen the highest person in there society is the High Prophet of Truth, so gaurding the temples is not menial work at all

in the epilogue its talking about a brut e when it says "the creature was a magnificent specimen of viciousness. The prophet marveled at its near-unthinkable potential for mayhem; the rippling muscle under its dull gray skin could tear apart any oponent- even a mighty hunter. it was the perfect instrument"

theres a description right from the book... an elite that knew the hunters weeknesses could probly kill a hunter 2 but a brute could tear it apart ... im asuming that meens way esier or somthing

The Elites advantage over the Brutes isnt in their strength one on one but in their leadership ability

not only that. your forgetting the elites' greater agility, intellicence, and speed, as well as a higher degree af training.

all of these thing are asumtions...i'll give u inteligence but ur saying cause the bruts are bulky they're slow, there bulk is muscle so they're stronger and should be able to move that muscle... your also saying they lack training but that is an unfounded statement cause the we dont have any official info as to there society and level of training... u also say they lack agility however in frankie's new article"The Covenant Primer" it says they share similar strength and agility with the elites... note my previous post for reasons why i think they're stronger..... now im not saying they're as agile(closethough) but they're probly not gonna be like the hunters and just crash trough anything in they're way
