Well, me and my friend (we were both young) played it together for the first time. So, during that whole level 343 Guilty Spark, we were all really creeped out. And, by some law of physics, the first time you play that level it always seems to be late at night. So, it's like 11 or 12, and we're having a grand time on Assault on the Control Room. And then all of the sudden we're dropped into a completely different environment. We found all the hints in that level but we never got them, just like everybody else. So we listened to the recording on the pelican, walked for a bit, killed some jackals and grunts, saw some sillhouetes (however you spell it) up on a cliff, (we were scared by that, but we figured it was just some elites) and when we saw the AR firing inside of the building we were all like "hey! marines!" then we get in, no marines. We spent the next 5 minutes looking for marines and we just figured the something weird happened to the game. We noticed the abnormal amount of blood on the wall but with no bodies by them, and that's when we got the hint that something wasn't quite right. A little past this point, my friend remarked on the fact that there were no elites in the level. There was a long silence after that. Then, we found the crazed marine. That scared us s-less. We noted all the bodies, the new, green blood, and at this point, we were scared s-less, like I said. So then we watched the infamous Jenkins helmet cam cutscene. Once it was finished, are hearts were pounding, we were sweating we were so scared. Then when we had all those little infection forms coming at us after busting down the doors. We jumped miles high whenever we heard a pounding door. Then, when the Devils... Monsters music played for the first time, and combat forms came running at us full speed, launching themselves 30 feet in the air, we just completely lost it. We were screaming, and pretty much holding down the trigger for our ARs. There was a lot of friendly fire involved, because whenever something came out of a corner, we freaked and held down the trigger. And then, boy, there was the first time a combat form hid around a corner, then launched himself at me. I just about had a heart attack. I thought my heart exploded. Then there was the first time a combat form came back to life right next to me. Again, I thought I had a heart attack.
In me and my friend's defense though, we were 7 or 8 and the flood in Halo 1 were freaking scary. The infection forms launched themselves at you and made that maddening droning noise. Combat forms mindlessly charged you at full speed and clawed you when they got close, plus, the flood noises were freaking scary in Halo 1. They growled, gurgled, and howled. Also, it was pitch black in the room.
