Operation Hunt Down
CO: Sergeant Terry McGovern [Codename; Shadow // ODST // Spec Ops]
Shadow turned the van left down Main street. Cars whizzed by, the sound of beeping horns filling the air. Riding shotgun was Canine, in the back, Sparrow, Meat, and Tank. They wore civilian clothes, however under their shirts was a thin buckeyball fiber vest, stopping above their gut to provide mobility with the otherwise movement impairing fabric.
Sparrow nervously toyed with his BR55. He was the rookie, this being his first mission in the Task Force. It was possibly the most dangerous branch to be in. Meat noticed, and patted him on the shoulder, "Don't worry kid, you'll be fine." It seemed to calm Sparrow down a bit, but he was still edgy.
Canine leaned around the back of his seat, and looked at Sparrow, "Try not to get shot bro, we do leave men behind."
"Alright." The rookie replied, trying to hold back the slight quiver in his voice.
Meat exhaled, "That's not true."
"Yeah it is." Canine retorted.
"Jesus Christ."
"I'm just tryin to scare the new guy." Canine said, facing forward again."
Shadow pressed on his earpiece, "HQ, does the drone have a visual on our target?"
Affirmative. His car is one block ahead, the red Genesis Ranger.
"Got it," Shadow looked at the traffic lock, then turned to his men, "Pile out, we're walkin." Everyone charged their weapons, and exited the car. They ran through the maze of cars, closing in on their target. When they reached the car, they moved to its sides it, and pointed their weapons at the two men inside.
"Out of the car, now!" Tank shouted. The men didn't comply, so he smashed the driver seat's window open, and reached his arm in to unlock the door. Opening it, he pulled the man out, and threw him on the ground, cuffing him. The passenger drew out a magnum, and aimed it Tank. Sparrow fired a three shot burst into the man's head, spattering the inside of the car with blood and brains.
Meat narrowed his eyes, "This isn't our target."
"We've got a runner!" Canine yelled, pointing his gun at a man in a red shirt bolting away.
Shadow fired a three shot burst into the cuffed innie's head, and ran forward. "Pursue!"
"Where the hell did he go?" Canine said.
Our drone has a visual. He's on the other side of the crowd ahead of you.
"Affirmative." Shadow replied. The team ran into the crowd, pushing people aside. "Switch to semi-automatic." The team complied, turning the switch on their BR55s from three shot burst, to semi. They wanted to disable the man, not kill him.
When they made it to the other side of the crowd, they frantically swept their eyes around the street. "There he is!" Sparrow shouted, pointing his rifle at the target. The innie turned around to see if anyone was following, and saw the armed men. Drawing his magnum, he fired at them.
A bullet cut through Meat's neck, and he fell to the ground, choking on his own blood. "Meat's down!" Canine alerted.
"I'll get him!" Sparrow said, about to turn around.
"Negative," Shadow intervened, "Stay on target."
"But-"
"That's an order!"
"I've got a shot!" Tank stated.
"Do not fire!" Shadow said frantically, "I repeat do not fire! There are too many civilians in the area." The innie fired again, hitting Canine in the chest. The bullet flattened on his vest, falling to the ground. This time, people noticed. There were screams as the city dwellers ran in every direction, trying to get out of the crossfire.
"Sh1t!" Canine cursed, "I've lost visual."
He's taken a left turn on the next intersection.
"Rodger HQ." Shadow said. The team turned left, and spotted their man. Their were civilians, but not many. This might be the best shot they would get. Sparrow was the closest to the man, and had a clear shot. "Sparrow , can you make the shot?"
The soldier hesitated, "I-I think so."
"Can you make it or not?!"
"Affirmative, I can make the shot!"
"Take it, now!"
"Firing!" Sparrow aimed his gun at the target's legs. The innie, twisted his torso around again, his pistol aimed at the ODST. Both of them fired at the same time, Sparrow's bullet severing the target's lower spine, and the innie's bullet lodging itself in Sparrow's head.
The innie fell to the ground, pathetically trying to crawl away. When the soldiers reached him, shadow stepped on the man's arm, policing his weapon. Shadow, slammed the target's face down on the concrete, breaking his nose as he cuffed him. "HQ we've bagged the target, it's him."
Shadow kicked the door to General Eli Ackerson's office open, walked in, and swiped everything off of the man's desk. "Somebody's angry." Ackerson said.
"Damn right!" Shadow yelled, "I lost two men back there, one that I've known since boot! That innie better have some damn good intel!"
"Of course he does." Ackerson leaned forward in his chair, resting his forearms on his wooden desk, and folding his fingers, "He knows who's responsible for the attack on the Spartan's base, and where he's hiding. He also knows the location of our Spartans. Personally I would like to leave them to die, but Lord Hood insists that we save them."
"I don't care about your familly grudges, what I care about is getting in on that mission."
"Why would you want to do that?"
"If it wasn't for the attack, today wouldn't have happened. I want to get even."
"If I send you on that mission, you will die." Ackerson said casually.
"And why is that?" Shadow asked.
"That's classified."
"Of course. You know, you're even more of a bastard than your father. Hopefully you'll get your head lopped off too." The ODST turned around, and headed for the door.
"Alright, you want in? You're in." Ackerson said with a blank face. "We're going to need some cannon fodder anyway."
