I have to say, my excitement for Reach was slowly building before today's update. Now I am thoroughly excite to try out the new weapons and abilities we'll have at our disposal. I'm sure there will be plenty of people that are gonna whine about loadouts, it taking away from the run-and-gun style that Halo has been branded with, but I see it as a welcome change to the series. It's not like it's going to be a class-based shooter like Modern Warfare 2 or Team Fortress 2, where you are primarily restricted to what you start out the match/life with. Sure you can somewhat choose your starting weapons but as soon as you get in game you can pick up weapons just like in any other Halo. So in the end, the whiners are people who can't stand change, and hate the idea of stepping up to new challenges. I'm excited about the load outs because it gives players an option that suits their playstyles.
For instance, in objective games like CTF or Assault and using the load outs pictured in the update: Players who like to rush the enemy would probably choose between Air Assault and Grenadier since their abilities allow them to quickly cross terrain and get to the goal; Long range players would choose the Expert Marksman, the sprint allowing the player to reach the sniper rifle quickly and then get to an area where they would be most effective; And defenders would likely choose Operator, being already armed with a shotgun is a plus and 2 or 3 players using the Armor Lock ability can probably deter and/or defeat an enemy rush if used at the right time.
The possibilities for better strategies already has my mind primed with tactics to use, even with much still being unknown. I have high hopes for this game, with only 3 things in my mind that I still hope for: a Reach version of the Security (Marathon) armor, a pilot-able Pelican, and vehicles from Halo Wars to appear even if they aren't pilot-able (namely the Vulture for UNSC and the Locust for the Covenant).
Keep up with the awesomeness Bungie!
