Last week, Microsoft and Bungie released an online version of the theatrical trailer of Halo 2 that is being projected in Loews cinemas across the country. You can watch the trailer here. At the end of the trailer, the classic Xbox ending sequence appears but this time there was something new. The http://www.xbox.com address changes for a couple of frames to http://www.ilovebees.com
What exactly the “ilovebees” mystery holds is unknown. The URL points out to a website that seems to be hacked and there are tons of subtle oddities that contribute to the speculation.
What is a fact is that the site has a countdown and it ends on August 24th. What exactly does that date hold for us?
We don’t know yet but the latest issue of the Official Xbox Magazine has shed some light into the mystery with a page that has a promo for next month issue, featuring The Big Holiday Preview Guide. In the ad there is an OXM magazine covered by wrapping paper, looking as a gift, with a small tag that says: “Do not open until August 24th”. OXM promises tons of screenshots and every detail on Halo 2 among other games. But the most interesting info that this ad provides is the fact that it will be in newsstands on August 24th.
This is more that a coincidence and by now an avid mind is wondering what exact Halo 2 goodie will the next issue of OXM will have for us? A big Halo 2 preview revealing new info about the game? Or could it be possible that a demo of the game is being cooked up for next month? A single player demo? An online playable demo, similar to the internal beta Bungie used to gather data? Really, your guess is as good as ours.
Some believe that one of the mysterious texts found in the ilovebees.com website that says “SYSTEM PERIL DISTRIBUTED REFLEX” is a suggestion of a Single Player Demo Release and that the following text, “In 13 days this medium will metastasize”, might be an indication that on that day the demo discs will start to be manufactured.
We have no idea what will happen from now until Aug. 24th and we don’t even want to think about Nov. 9th. One thing is for sure, the hype has begun. Stay tuned. We’ll have more on the ilovebees mystery as it becomes available.
