It's definetly losing steam quickly...Halo 2 doesn't have the staying power that CE did. One huge reason for this is after a while, there's nothing to get better at. There's a skill cap in Halo 2, and I wonder how long it's gonna take people to realize that running in a circle holding down 2 triggers in someone's general direction isn't FUN, nor does it take the least amount of skill.
Bungie needs to do something huge with Halo 3. They've lost all (well, most) of their diehard CE fans from Halo 2, and the kids they're catering to now by making Halo 2 simplified will be gone the second a new game comes out with a cool commercial (i.e Perfect Dark Zero, Gears of War, etc.). Halo 3 will either be a huge success and a great game, or a huge dud with even more repetitive gameplay.
