I've been playing Halo (xbox) on XBConnect for years now, but I've recently downloaded the PC demo. I'm not an experienced PC FPS player, so the keyboard + mouse has knocked me back down to Uber-n00b status. I've been checking out the xbox controller>pc USB adapters online and was wondering if any of you Halo PC players have made use of these at all. Flame away for me 'needing' to use the controller, but 3+ years of playing the game on xbox has got me trained to the controller. Thanks in advance.

Hey ive tried it out and well, it has its ups and ts downs. First of all, I also am used to the xbox controller over keyboard and mouse, and also, having had an N64 and Goldeneye007, I use the Legacy controls. So that in itself presents a seperate problem for me. Well, the xbox controller wasnt exactly made to be used on a pc, and the homemade drivers ive found arent that good. It's different using the controller on PC in that if you move the movement stick just alittle, you go full speed, though looking is exactly the same as xbox. Maybe i just need to find a better driver, or mayby halo pc doesnt support uh.. i dont know how to put it.. movement sensitivity?

Multiplayer makes all movement digital, but you can go slower in singleplayer. i dunno y? My problems w/ using the xbox controller are the lack of auto-aim making it much harder that the xbox version was, lack of rumble, you can't pause by hitting the start button, and the digital movement. other than those things, it works pretty well, but i still do a lot better using keyboard and mouse.

Once you start playing halo pc with a controller, u'll miss the auto-aim, it's almost impossible to get headshots w/ the sniper rifle without it if you're using a controller. I used xctrl drivers for my xbox controller, and it worked with halo just as well as any other controller.

I spliced my own USB cord onto an XBOX controller extension cord. You can get one of those for cheaper than those ones you see online. If you feel competent enough to do that on your own. I play Halo PC with the XBOX controller and it works wonderfully well. The controls are EXACTLY the same as on the XBOX, button for button. Make sure you get the xctrl drivers if you do it.

I'm gonna wait until Halo 2 is on xbox live to play with a controller. I would prefer to use an xbox controller rather than a keyboard and mouse.

I played around with this when Halo PC first came out. Use the psxpad drivers, they are much better than XCTRL. The psxpad drivers support feedback (rumble). Even with good drivers, the lack of auto-aim puts controller users at a disavantage...the mouse is just more accurate.

Well, if only I knew how to splice the thing, I'd certainly do it. but unfortunately I don't.. Though I can get used to the keyboard mouse controls but it will never be perfect.

thethinge is you have to get used to the mouse becuse it is better to aim without the autoaim and the controles to move on the key board are also simple

w w=forward a=move left s=move back d=move left and you know the
a s d controles

Yeah, the keyboard controls can be hard to get used to, but the mouse is sooooo much easier for headshots. I put my sensitivity to the max - pistol headshots galore :D

Heyyo,

I try my saitek P2500 Controler, and it's good. Force feedback can be emulated. Google that "illusion software touchsense gaming software" and get that. It can emulate force feedback by either button pushes, or sound, or both. It's cool. So even while just listnin' to music on your comp it'll go off, lol, teh smex. ;)

You should also try to find software that can change buttons on your controllers, my saitek came with one, the Saitek Profile Editor. I'm sure there's little 3rd party ones out there, just scavenge guys, then you can make your start button act as the esc key. ;)
