Interesting. It's sort of like what Xbox Live did with one of the updates, displaying the length of time one is a member. Very cool idea.

Agreed. I think Mythic members deserve that recognition. Plus it gives us all positive incentive.

Okay, the OP likes analogies. So I have one for the OP and then I have a solution. Please bare with me here.

Analogy:

Let's say B.net is the community pool. At the pool we can get the expert swimmer badge (Mythic) by being a member for a certain amount of time, good swimming ability, and of course following the rules.

The OP has the expert swimming badge (Mythic, highest badge). The OP became a member of the pool back in 2004. Great swimmer. Over time more members joined the pool. Over time they have excelled in their swimming ability. Some of those members are now going to get their expert swimming badge in the near future. They have met the requirements.

The OP now says well you didn't join the pool when I did. Even though you have met all the requirements that I have, you shouldn't be an expert swimmer because I was here before you. As a matter of fact, we should now make it so it takes longer to get the expert swimmer badge and harder. Harder than what it took me to get it.

It should be harder for you because I've been here longer. No, you can't have that badge. Yes it took me X amount of years to get it. Oh, you have been here x amount of time now? Never broken the rules? I was here first.

Sounds sort of ridiculous huh?

Solution:

Since once a member here will get Mythic by following the rules and being an active member over a certain period of time, Mythic members should also have a Roman numeral to the right of their title, regardless of their prefix.

Examples:

Elder Mythic Member XII

Noble Mythic Member VI...and so on.

The Roman numeral shows how long you have been here. It should be available to Mythic members only. It gives positive incentive to everyone, plus acknowledges members tenure here. It is also slightly educational. I think I know a few Roman numerals...you get what I am saying. If you have to look up what a Roman numeral means, well you just educated yourself.

This continues to give acknowledgment to even Elder Mythic members. It also keeps people around as in, "Wow, I only have two more months and I get my XV, fifteen years!"

I think this is a fair and just solution. It in no way can be manipulated and all the same rules still apply. Just when you get Mythic, your number of years are shown next to your title. You get banned, God forbid, hey you loose that blue bar and your nifty Roman numeral. All the more reason to play nice.

Looks like someone is a loser...

OhEmGee some r gun haz mah rank 2!

Seriously, though, you got Mythic status because you've been here for a very long time and have remained active. Why shouldn't other people get to the same level you are?
Because. . . he was a moderator? I don't know, but you have to admit it is unfair. Here's another analogy.

How is it unfair? Everyone is judged equally by an automated system, that is the definition of fair.

I like Delta's idea. I was wondering the same thing, but instead of Roman Numerals, we use Bungie things again.

2001-2002 - Grizzled
2003-2005 - Old Skool
2006-2008 - Middle School

eventually, these will slightly alter

2007-2009 - Middle School
2010-2012 - Newbie

However, the same thing will happen that is happening now...so lets just go with the number

Taxes do nothing to affect the share of wealth, since taxes are only applied to income.

So that's not even a part of the conversation at all, so it's pointless talking about it....

"for a "best" moral to exist, there must exist the "best" moral base. If the base of morality varies from location to location, culture to culture...then there can't be an absolute moral..

As far as I can tell there are already more than a dozen different titles that members can earn, and these titles really boil down to awarding labels based on the age of an account, the amount of activity of an an account, and the ban/warning history of an account.

How is there any kind of lack in member titles?
Posted by: Skibur
With the ageing Bungie.net population and the already high number of Mythic Members, I think that we need to implement a number of new titles which are (see edit) than Mythic Member.
It's not as special being Mythic when pretty soon members who registered in 2008 will be given the title.

Suggestions for new titles and general discussion is welcome.

EDIT: These new titles would need to be added between Member and Heroic, Heroic and Legendary and Legendary and Mythic.
We shouldn't have anything higher than Mythic. (There is nothing higher than Mythic)

Yes, like the new veteran numbers you get on your gamertag. Roman Numerals fit perfectly. Just hopefully in a few more years someone won't ask for a Hall of Fame or a monument resurrected in their honor.

100% agree on Roman Numerals.

Posted by: Duardo
Going to have to go with a no on that one. No more words tacked on to the ones we have now. In a few more years there will be titles so long that it won't even fit on the bar.

It IS as bad as you think and they ARE out to get you.

Maybe there are more Mythic members because there are 1: more members on the forums which leads to 2: more of those members have been here for a while/are mature. That is just one thought, and one i see nothing wrong with.
If you really want to distinguish members, distinguish between those who were here before/after H2 release.

Delta

I think Delta has it. While reading through the thread I had a similar idea a page or two before this.

I think (note this is a mere educated guess, who knows, I could be very wrong here) that no one really wants something higher than mythic. Now, someone who joined back in '04, had to work X number of years to get mythic. But someone who joined in '07 had to work that same X number of years to get mythic. So they're both mythic, but one has worked more than the other (assuming the '04 member hasn't stopped posting since he got mythic. So while the '07 member was getting his/her mythic, the '04 member was solidifying his/her mythic status). So instead of setting their titles perfectly equal, but keeping them both at mythic, give the '04 member a better prefix.

Thank you Delta for giving an excellent way to explain it.

"Find The Bomb?!
Find The Bomb?!
I'm Looking For The Flag!
What The Heck Is Assualt!?"

Maybe once you have been here long enough the "member" part of your title could change to something more intense.

Such as forerunner as someone said before, or precursor.

And then the whole heroic, legendary, mythic system starts over again with your new member status.

For example

Member < Heroic Member < Mythic Member < Forerunner < Legendary Forerunner < Precursor etc...

i disagree with this. i could make the same argument for 50s and lower ranks but i know thats not right to do, so why should it allowed to be done with forum titles. but it really has nothing to do with me because i know i probably wont ever be a mythic member here just like theyre are people who will never be a 50 and i accept that. good luck on your crusade for more recognition

I like Delta's idea. I was wondering the same thing, but instead of Roman Numerals, we use Bungie things again.

Years

2001-2002 - Grizzled
2003-2005 - Old Skool
2006-2008 - Middle School
2009-2010 - Newbie

eventually, these will slightly alter

2001-2003 - Grizzled
2004-2006 - Old Skool
2007-2009 - Middle School
2010-2012 - Newbie

However, the same thing will happen that is happening now...so lets just go with the number

So in essence, Grizzled would be the equivalent of 7+ years, Old Skool 6-4 years, Middle School 3-2, and Newbie being less than that. That sounds good, although there's always the chance that after several years, someone who has been here since 2002 would be bothered by the fact that he had been lumped in with people who had joined in 2006. But barring the possibility of such impunity, there is no real fault.

Why not merely length of time you've spent here, instead of join date? Duardo has good names, so maybe instead of 6 year names, it can keep increasing after long periods of times. So if you have a member who has been here for like 20 years in the future, you'll know based on their title. I don't like the idea of basing it on join date, but rather just the length of time you've been here.

Too bad. They are meant to encourage investing in a single account - that means that as more people stick around, more will gain the title as a reward for keeping their same accounts. There won't be more added unless I decide to totally change how titles work at some theoretical point in the future.
