Its a forum title. Nothing more. I mean literally nothing more.So you're saying that the amount of time you have been a member, your behaviour while being a member, your activity while being a member all means nothing? Why would you bother then?
The title is the best system of instantly visualising your Bungie.net history for yourself and others to see.
I don't know about you, but I care about the time that I've put in, and like to see that others do too. While the actual title can be seen as just a title, I feel it symbolises a lot more.
I do contend that time spent here, general behavior, and activity mean nothing. If you made an account in 2004, and just posted things like "lol the BR is awsme and pwns da stpd pistol" in Zanzibar, and later in the Halo 3 forum, you could easily be a mythic member if you posted that drivel often enough. So long as you kept it at that viscosity of stupid, you probably wouldn't be banned either. Meaning, that it doesn't take much to be a mythic member. You just have to not be intensely moronic, and post every few weeks.
Perhaps since you've been here awhile and you've actually contributed some good things to our community, you do feel that your title is indicative of how good a member you are. In your case Skibur, you'd be right. However, I'm saying that causation does not equal correlation. Though you are a good member, and have been for awhile, you need actually not be anything approaching a good member to be mythic.
Why would I then bother to interact here? Because I enjoy it. I need no other reason. Its interesting that your straw man (implying that since I think titles are pointless, that it means that I should not try to interact here because my title and therefore standing is not important to me) is both correct, and incorrect due to that causation does not equal correlation fallacy.
Because simply being mythic or legendary or heroic is easily attainable without actually contributing anything, I don't think the titles have any real value. As I said, I think its a social modifier, in order to socially engineer a behavioral outcome. Interestingly, I think it succeeded there. I think that people think about what they post, if they have something to lose. That might prevent them from doing something they know will get them banned. But, that's not the issue here.
The issue, is you suggesting that some more social modifiers would be a welcome addition. You might be right, and as I said I have no problem with adding more. I just wanted to make a point about putting value on things which are likely without tangible, or even virtual social value. That's all.
