Well the original halo already has a ragdoll physics engine, Im not saying that its a good engine though. But I do agree with you I do hope that there is going to be a new engine to replace the old one. But overall the ragdoll physics are just fine.

ragdoll physics is where when you die your body just like i dunno becomes a ragdoll and in halo 1 he just like does the same thing over and over when you die

Halo 1 was actually a mix - There was the animations for death, and once they were done, your body conformed to the terrain.

From the demos, it looks like the deaths are still animated. In the CTF gameplay captured from E3 2004, when someone kills an Elite with an SMG, he falls to his knees and then on his face, and it looks animated.

I'm sure they will have the 'secondary' ragdoll physics implemented better, though.

I don’t care too much for rag doll physics. I like the way the bodies collapse in Halo 1. I don’t like the way it looks when I see it in new games.

early in the e3 2k4 demo when the guy is showing off the plasma sword, notice when he does the lunge attack the elite goes flying into the ground rolling over a few times. That right there may be a mix of death animation and ragdoll physics because his body movements are folllowing the terrain pretty darn well
