A recnet thread discussion about "attacking" got me thinking about this. Props to those who suggested some of these tips; you know who you are.

Mouse sensitivity is a big factor in your aim. If your mouse is set at ten, you turn quickly, meaning you can manuever better, probably dodge well, and drive with fine tuned precision. This also aides when being pummeled from behind by plasma weapons.

But that doesn't help when you whip out a gun. A fast mouse usually means sloppy shooting, missed shots, and wasted ammo. To combat this, you need to tailor your mouse speed to your own ability. If you can shoot well at ten, thats great. But most of us will find lowering the sensitivity on our mouse keeps us from overreacting in combat. When you panic, you tend to jerk your mouse toward where the shots are coming from. If you then pull the trigger, you miss more often than you hit.

Mouse sensitivity is pure user preference and should be tailored to your combat style. If you like to fly and drive, go for a slightly higher setting(8 to 10). If you vary your weapons a lot, try anywhere from 5 to 7. If you're a precision shooter, relying mostly on pistols and sniper, its been suggested that you can go as low as 2.

A lot of people try to "train" themselves to use a higher mouse sensitivity. My reply: horse apples!! Forcing yourself to use a higher (or lower!) mouse sensitivity than you feel comfortable with for your play style makes about as much sense as forcing yourself to write with your right hand when you are a natural lefty. The more comfortable you feel in this game, the better you will perform.

The key point is this: if you're missing a lot and its not due to lag or leading, try adjusting your mouse sensitivity rating. Chances are that just a little casual fiddling will grant phenomenal returns on in game performance.

Pretty cool! I play Star Wars Battlefront, it's an awesome game with crappy aiming systems. It's been greatly improving my aim as well as your tip! Good job.

This is a really great tactics thread Minus! Nice grammar and vocab (which is a real rarity lol). I thought I might ask you if there are certain spots and weapons that work best on taking down a banshee. I know you can see the guy's feet and there are teeny cracks along the sides that expose him (not that I know if a bullet will go through these holes), and I'm pretty sure shooting the exposed part of him takes him down a lot faster than just shooting part of the banshee, but aside from that, what weapon would you recommend for taking it down? Suppose you're bunkered down in one of the bases on Blood Gulch, and you were able to grab the pistol before you fell down into the base, running away from the rampaging banshee who is circling around trying to fuel rod you. You've got your choice of the pistol, plasma rifle, AR, shotgun, and one or two nades. How would you recommend taking out the shee?

With a standard loadout of human pistol, MA5B and two nades, I’d get my skinny little rear into the base quick as possible. Swap your MA5B for a shotgun and get ready to cut him in half.

The trick is to lure the shee into a close range nose dive with your pistols, then swap out to shotgun and blast him medium to close range. Done well, you’ll likely get two shots off before he plops.

Against savvy pistol users, he can’t ignore you. The pistols will deplete his shields quickly—the shee pilots best friend—giving him the choice of either focusing only on you or run and hide while they recharge.

But these are only for the specific situation you described. The Machine gun Warthog is the second best weapon in the game for dealing with a banshee camper. Shots sloppy enough to give a wide cone of fire coupled with a very high rate of rounds fired give the gunner of this hog phenomenal damage to the wayward shee pilot. If you can get to a stationary hog near your base, use the guns high damage and range to quickly take a shee down.

Whats the first you ask? The tank! Tank versus banshee battles are always one sided: whover gets the drop gets the kill. Or you can grab another banshee and try to clobber him mono e mono.

I find the rocket launcher quite effective against a shee as well…when my ping is good. While the Fuel rod has greater ammo and reload settings, the rockets linear shot makes targeting a nose diving shee a snap. Use the pistol/shotgun trick to get his attention and you’ll be seeing “rocket noob” in the chat text in no time. Also, plasma nades, imho, were put in this game just to handle vehicles. Again, use pistol to lure him into a dive bomb attack and as he gets close, toss.

You notice how almost all these tactics revolve around the human pistol? There are many reasons I name it the best weapon in the game, and the banshee is high on that list.

But all this is for not if he hits you with a fuel rod blast. Good dodging, cover, and quick reflexes can prove more important than aim when fighting a banshee. One trick is to, when you see the fuel rod fired, jump up before it hits the ground. Heavy weapon direct hits are a rarity and most people aim for the feet. If you’re airborne when the fuel rod hits the ground you’ll take less damage and get a boost to your jump in return. If your cover is nearby (BG example and you have the choice to jump inside or walk into the doorways), just hide and recharge.

Hope this helps.

You are experiencing ping delay. You just need to lead your shots a little. If your under a 100 ping that is great. Read up on Minus's guide and practice, practice, and oh yeah, practice.

Hope that helps a little.

Happy Hunting.

thanks minus i think i know why they keep hitting me now I’ll get good with pistols and use the zoom more and i got a tip now because you told me it and it wasn’t on the sticky you need to learn all the maps so you know where to hide and where all the other people are hiding too and make a small name because when people shoot at you sometimes that’s the first thing they see is your name and if you make a small name like – for minus sign then they can’t see you as good from really far away
