Is this Halo: Combat Evolved or Halo: Custom Edition? And what exactly happens when you try to run it?

im having the same issue and cant seem, to fix it, i run it in compatability mode and still cant get it to work.
I just installed Halo: Combat Evolved earlier today on my Windows 7 rig, and I found that using a compatibility mode only makes things worse--the game can't find a file (which I forgot the name of) which is necessary for the game to run.
Just running the game normally, I got an error message that my computer does not have enough RAM to run Halo, yet my computer has 4 gigabytes of RAM, not including the 1 GB on the video card. The window gave me the options of either just running the game normally or running in safe mode. I chose the first option and the game worked fine, at least in the first three levels.
I did not update the game yet.
