The word newb? Or any play on it?

Not allowed; familiarize yourself with the rules

Once you've done that, everything else should be grand :)

And welcome; you can use the "Introduce Yourself" thread to get your name out as well

bah

No Maka, if he wants to aknowledge he's a newb, all the power to him. It's the name calling that got the word banned. Besides, although you didn't realize it, Tyrael, you lifted yourself out of the status of newb by admitting you are one. In my eyes, you're no longer a newb. Although this seems counter-intuitive, it is not. It's like how admitting you have an addiction absolves you from still having it. You see, we have literally hundreds of noobz running rampant around here, and all of them think they are cool, even though they are all immature little... jerks. By saying you're new, and showing a willingness to lear the ropes, you are more than a newb, you're an old definition newb. You see, we used to have noob instead, and being a noob was neutral, and being a newb was a show of respect. But new people got confused and thought noob and newb were both horribly bad, so they banned the word, something I regret them doing.

So I wholeheartedly welcome you to Bungie.net! May you always be this mature and intelligent and not go over to their side.

No Maka

You must be mistaken; that word is never allowed

Let me handle what I do, and you can handle yours

When talked about as a title for somebody who is new to Bungie.net, it's still derogatory, whether intended or not

Of course it's meant firstly for the other reason, but it's still the same here; that's what I understood it as

But he used it as a self descriptor -- I said something about that in another post. It's not being used as an insult, he's just using it to describe what he is - New.

bah

I have not once since the new hotness, not once directly called anyone here a newbie, newb, noob, or n00b. In that sence of the term, i am not using it in a derogatory manner. In fact, I have called someone here a noob, but no one could take it as an isult but myself, and I usually don't care about the names I call myself, except the time I called myself a neener-head. Oh, I'll get me for that.

You see, there is swearing, and then there is swearing. I can say ass all I want around here. It's not blammed. Ass ass ass. See? But if I call someone an ass, I'm stepping over that broad line. Just as I can say I'm a noob at modding, but I can't call someone a noob.

There are also many other ways to offend people withough swearing. If you purposefully offend someone, isn't that worse than saying noob? I think some of the people in power around here need to look at what is offensive and what is not. I find all the stupid crap around here offensive, but you don't see me -blam!-ing about every Neo vs MC thread, or all the lazer wars that the inexperienced forum posters make. Sure, I'll occasionally voice off in public as I am now, but for the most part, I just try to play nice and ignore the offensive topics alltogether. That's what I do when I'm offended, ignore it.

Look, just accept the rules as they've been laid out - there's really nothing you can do about it.

Why do we have a month old thread on the front page? Cpt Seth, I think this is your evil doing.
