So, you all remember the threaded view we used to have right? The view where you could see who was responding to who? There was very little need to quote, and posts semed more personal.

Good idea.

When the New Hotness first arrived, I expressed my disappointment at the loss of the threaded view. However, I think I've got used to the flat view by now. I still think that threaded listing is superior, but I'm not sure how well it would go with the style of the website.

I don't reckon Bungie's going to re-implement the old style, but I would be in favour of it if Bungie does decide to take that line of actio, and they can do it well, without ruining the look and feel of the site.

As you can see, ambivalence is my strong point. ;)

No, flat-view is much better. It takes up less space for one. And-threaded view was never perfect when it got to the limits of the table.

i loved the threaded view, the only thing that concerns me is that it might me a bit to "slow" for all the traffic around here, but i'm not to sure about it. But if Bungie decides to bring it back, than they got my blessing.

I'd pay for a threaded view.

A threaded view for all of the traffic we've had since the new site has been up? That'd be horrible

But I do hope they leave it in for Chapters once they're done with their transition, as at least within a chapter, it can be maintained personally by the staff

Rip, while I'm all for the old way most of the time, in this case I'm not. This isn't that little old place we visited last year, there are thousands of posts daily, way too many for threaded view. Quote frankly, I've stopped being stubborn and am beginning to let this site grow on me. We can never live in the past, my friend. Things change and there's nothing we can do about it.

Well, threaded view could actually save bandwidth. When you have threaded views, there is no reason to quote people anymore, which takes up a lot more bandwidth than simply threading the view. Of course, there probably isn't enough quoting to really save much, but the threaded view more than makes up for any additional file transfer sizes in my opinion. And I'm not nostalgic, Barron, I simply like the way threaded works. It's my preferred view style.

I used quotes quite a bit with threaded-view. And what it saves in bandwidth for that it makes up for in the bandwidth required to retrieve the post information for each and every post.

Threaded or no thread BUNGIE FORUMS ARE THE BEST!

Threaded or no thread BUNGIE FORUMS ARE THE BEST!
The lads got a point you know. Anyhoo, the threaded view was great, and still is. But with the recent boost in members here it would be insane. Probably crazier then it is now. About the whole quoting thing, damn near everyone still quoted people all the time with the threaded view, just in case their post was put at the end of the line, so just to make sure you were refering to a specific post, you'd quote. Like everyone else, I had to adjust to the "new" forums, and although I'm with you Rip, Banshee also makes a true statement, things change and there's nothing we can do about it. Before the forums were run by like 50 people, now there's thousands. The bigger the better I suppose.

It would be nice if the replies within the topic were threaded somehow. Or at least had some system where you could tell who is replying to whom.

Agreed. That's why my vote was "Only if no trouble to Bungie". I just hope it stays that way in the 7th Column Chapters, because I like having it in my forum.

"I have no words that would do justice to the atrocities you commit to the English language, as well as your continued assaults on the concepts of basic literacy and logical reasoning."

Bandwidth isn't that much of a concern with text (the text contents of this web site are compressed over the wire for compatible browsers), and even then, people quoted a bunch anyway.

The threaded view isn't coming back in the forseeable future. Not only did it suck for the layout designers, the overhead of such a dynamic forum system is one of the reasons the 7th Column is being upgraded to new code. That new code will use this forum system, which is superior is pretty much every way.

I've always liked the flat-view.

And along comes Archronos again to tell me why something won't work. Hey, Archronos, why won't my car turn right?

Hey, Archronos, why won't my car turn right?
Because you were too cheap to buy one with a steering wheel.
And along comes Archronos again to tell me why something won't work.
Have you ever thought that he does that because he knows best?

With B.B. gone, the passion of Bungie.net has lessened.

As Barron--as well as others--stated, the forums are much too big for threaded view. Bungie.net would become an HBO Forum-esque horror (sorry, but I really hate their forum set-up).

I didn't really care for the threaded view to begin with, though. As long as I can see the threads and replies some way or another, without too much clicking and back-tracking, I am happy.

If a threaded view was added inside the threads, as Stosh suggested, I think it would be neat... But like I said, I don't really care what happens.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

What other threaded view is there? I wouldn't want all of the posts to be displayed. Threads would be displayed the same way they are now, and the threading would occur only once you click on a thread. It makes no sonce to thread the threads themselves.
