What does everyone think about the jumping in Halo 2? I'm not too sure I like it. From what I have seen, they jump kinda high, and the reason I don't really like it, is because it's not very resalistic (don't you think?) with the heavy armor and all... Plus it's not going to be good, because I know that in Halo 1 you never want to jump because it's so easy to judge where they go and shoot them, so jumping high (and for longer) will make you even more exposed to enemy fire... And when I saw the E3 MP showing, the elite jumped, about 2 and 1/2 times as high as on Halo 1, he could probably jump over three warthogs stacked on top of each other...just don't think I really like it...and when he comes down from the jump, the physics don't seem very good, like he's in slow motion on the way down...I just plain don't like it...what do you guys think on the matter....?

Strength ehancing armour, chemical treatments in their youth, and vigorous training throughout their life (the Spartans received all of this.) Eh, I think it is possible.

The jump is higher but not THAT much higher. The reason it looks that way in the vid with the elite, is because he jumps from the top of a small hill. I think the new jump height is pretty nice. It now allows you to jump over oncoming ghosts, and also could expand level design quite a bit.

well the jumping higher than normal for Halo 2, if you jump to high then your just a easy target, so I hope you do not jump that high, the limit of the jump in Halo is good enough, maybe it could be higher though but not too high.

Make getting that plasma sword a whole lot harder, and make it a hwole lot more fun, you could have a bit of an adventurous aspect in the game, which is always fun, comign from the Mario Brothers days, (actually, i think mario was born before i was) but the mario series was really fun with it's adventurous aspect!

yes, I figured, one reason they did it, was to "expand the level design", but with the ghosts lowered now for "ramming" as the E3 man said I just don't see why jumping that much higher would help gameplay. The strength enhancing and stuff is a good reason why...for story purposes and seems logical, but I just have a gut feeling that it won't be that great in the MP game...just my thoughts..

Guess they will probably take advantage of pressure against a button. For an example tap it hard and fast the higher u got. But if u tap it lightly u got not as I and medium will be in between. It makes more sense for them to do this.

I certainly hope that they make jumping pressure sensitive...that would be great.

heh, there's also supposedly a moon base level where you jump even higher=]

Hey! I thought the jumping higher was due to low gravity in "THE HALO" on the first Halo. Humans can jump high, even higher if they are enhanced but the 9.8 m/s is still there and the jumping motion we saw in the game had to have been affected by a low gravity environment. If there are levels on Earth there HAS to be different physics I assume. I'm confused now.....AAARGh!

Jumping....is useless....

Makes sense, MC's wearing powered armor. He should have a jetpack- hey, that'd be a cool vehicle....

its true, and that would be awesome to have jetpacks in the game, but would be another target for the homing rockets from the rocket launcher.

well, on the E3 MP level, I think Zanzabar was an Earth level, where the 9.8 m/s gravity would be effective...and hence they should not jump that high...I know about the low gravity level...but I do not think that, that was the case with Zanzabar...I would have thought that halo 1's gravity would be larger than Earth's since it's planet was a "gas giant" which would give it a heavier gravity...pretty much, the larger the planter, the larger the gravitational force...

The halo was BY the planet which would give me even more reason to believe that gravity in the halo would be quirky. I assumed that the gravitational behavior of the halo would be similar to a moon.

the halo would have a greatly smaller mass compared to the planet..which would effect all gravity for the halo (mostly) and you would jump less on it than on Earth...ooh yeah, I love having people respond to my topic..it really makes me feel good...I'm new on this message board and hopefully I have not made too much of an ass of myself or have been looked at in a negative light...I love my fellow Halo fanatics...carry on...

I don't understand why people want games to be freaking realistic
Video games are suppose to be a way to escape from reality
I can understand about football games, or any sport games.
but these games are just for fun who cares about jumping?
lol it doesn't make THAT much different

I see your point in wanting to "escape reality" in a way, but most people like to do that in their video games in a way that could really happen. Aliens out there have a religious vendeta against us...sure, shields and plasma guns...sure, intergalactic space travel...sure, but not jumping correctly on planets is not acceptable :-) Anyway, most people like to play around in a place (game) that is realistic to real life and you could imagine yourself doing, therefore gives it more realism, and enhances the "get away", but still imaginable aspect of the future...

P.S. I for one, love realist games...they can have great, abstract plots, and imaginary worlds, but a level of realism is required, not to distract me, or distance me from the game experience itself...at least, that is my thought process...

Actually, the mass of the gas giant would have only a very small effect on Halo's gravity. The force of "gravity" is actually provided by the spinning of the ring, not by its mass. If the ring did not spin, there would be very little gravitational effect while on the ring. In The Fall Of Reach, I'm pretty sure that Cortana's analysis finds that the spin provides a pseudo-gravitational pull on the surface that is 9.8 m/s^2, the same as Earth's gravitational pull at sea level.

This is one piece of evidence for the Forerunners' link to Earth, but that's for another day.

I think it will be good for one reason only.......ROCKET JUMPING.....i jus figured out a triple nade rocket jump and i can get on top of any leve;(thats possible) in Halo 1...so it will help to get find secrets. And you arent smart if you jump when someones snipering you...u jus suck if you do that.

hhmmm, you may be correct, I am ignorant in posting information, I'm not too sure of. I've only passed Physics I (with a 99 average I might add). I have not gone through II and III, but I'm not sure just what spinning does against such a massive force that is "the gas giant", depends on how fast it goes according to Newton's second law. I know that the greater the mass of a planet (in this case) the greater the force of gravity. If someone could give the mass of halo (or figure it out in relation of the moon it's in between) and radius then the force could be calculated with mass of planet estimated. Force of gravity = G(mof planet*m[of halo])/r^2 whereas G = 6.673 x 10^-11 N*m^2/kg^2

unless I'm forgetting something...drunk and tired is no way to go through life...at the moment..I'm both.

Unrealistic? He has so much musle making him jump, and add the fact the suit multiplys any reaction he has time 5. Its not unrealistic.
