The first time I played Halo2. I played for over 10 hours.
Exploring the new maps with friends as they came out (I'm confident to this day I was among the first to glitch out of Warlock).
Those certain Big Team Battle games where a bunch of strangers learn how to work together and win.
Those certain Big Team Battle games where a bunch of strangers begin yelling at each other and blow a fuse or two... or sixteen.
The cries of sorrow and anguish from players when a game in progress hit the blue screen, a likely sign of someone standbying.
All the great custom games that people made, like Zombies, Demolition Derby, Tremors, etc. There was one that I played called Mike Myers, a Juggernaut/Hide-and-Seek mode where everyone had 1 life and had to hide from the Juggernaut, who hunted everyone with an energy sword. The Juggernaut would play the theme from the Halloween horror movies over his mic, so when he was getting close to where you were hiding, you began to hear the Halloween theme playing. Best game ever.
Seeing that in a Mature-rated first person shooter with guns and gore galore, people played Hide and Seek custom games.
Halo2 was just a pioneer in gaming, and the community had that pioneer spirit. Halo3 is very fun, but it was more of a fine-tuning rather than venturing uncharted waters like Halo2 was. Despite all the frustrations, trash talk, racist 10 year olds, and so on, you just can't beat that feeling of discovery and comradery Halo2 so often gave you. Halo2 is just why I've always liked video games: Exploring a brave, new world with brave, true friends.
See you on Wednesday, Halo2.
