Here's an important one - The 360 cache may lose the maps after a while, BUT - while this isn't a problem for map pack DVD owners, what about the blastacular pack maps after the Live shutdown? What will we do about downloading them? It's not like I have a spare HD I can keep my Halo 2 maps on that I never plan on downloading title updates for any other game on ever again. Do we simply lose this content we paid for forever? Will they be stuck up in the marketplace? What will happen?

I host a lot of lanparties, we play Halo, Halo 2, Halo 3, ODST, and look forward to Reach. We like being able to use all the content for them all.

They will probably be gone forever,
I also heard that if you remove your HD from your xbox then all the downloaded maps become corrupted.

I've never had that issue. As far as I know the only problems are just down to how original XBox titles store all their data in the 360s cache, which gets overwritten by title updates, so even though Halo 2 recognises the maps as being installed, they are no longer present on the HD.

Of course this is a serious issue with the 360 from day one, which affects 360 titles as well as originals. I hate it when I am going away for a while to somewhere with no net connection as I have to choose which five or six games I want to play while I'm away, install the title updates for them, then take them with me, as it reads saves for most other ones as corrupt unless I download their title updates again.

It's frankly something they should have fixed the MOMENT they brought out hard drives bigger than 20GB. Allowing us to PERMANENTLY store updates for games.

halo 2 still the best game in the series. long live halo 2.

Dam, I miss the old days playing halo 2 with my old brothers in arms. Thank you my old friends for giving me this account, I shall continue our legacy.

Hopefully they"ll find a way to compensate us for this problem, if those bastards still care about us original live players after the 15th.

I have yet to see or hear anything about the content and what is going to happen to it after the 15th.

My understanding is that once support goes down for these games, you will no longer be able to download content for the games either. Just to play it safe I downloaded my Halo 2 stuff to a memory card so I shouldn't have to worry about anything happening to it.

This is the average H2 Fanboy.

50 in H2/H3? Great, but you still fail at this.

According to the xbox original dashboard, downloadable content can not be redownloaded after the 14th. So no, you can't redownload the maps from live.

Also, backing it up is no use unless you resign the files, as the content is signed to the 360. Which means you lose after your 360 Red Rings/e74s/whatever, and you send it in, and it moans the maps are corruppted even though they appear on the 360 dash. Of course, it doesn't matter on the xbox 1.

Or just get h2v. There is a port of tombstone, a few halo 1 map ports, and there are lots of modded maps too. And desolation is getting ported too.

To my knowledge the maps aren't stored in the utility cache, they're stored in the game's U/TDATA as all DLC was for original XBox games and XBox 360 games. The title update is also stored in the U/TDATA for the original XBox, but not the XBox 360. Where have you heard otherwise? Halo 2 only complains of corrupted DLC if you've switched consoles/licenses as I found out only too recently.

If you're really concerned, consider buying an XSATA or similar device to transfer the maps and be prepared to resign your maps with dotHalo.

Mine always complains that the maps need to be redownloaded every time I have played a few 360 titles before going back to play Halo 2. It was one of the things which put me off playing Halo 2 as much as I used to, when I had to do it almost every time I wanted to fire it up for a quick game.

The XSATA/XPort option is looking very appealing, especially now that friends have confirmed for me that copying data which you backed up previously back to your HD via one of these will not cause a console ban. Although I'm also considering the possibilities now USB storage is available for the 360 of ghosting the drive (Although it's been proven that 360 data copied from a USB stick to another drive will be unreadable, if you ghost the drive it should in theory still be able to read the data)
