I've tried these steps http://forums.gamesforwindows.com/p/8000/74420.aspx#74420

http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistagaming/ thread/e02f738c-0ada-412f-8a0d-200dd5c52b18

BUT, none of it is working! How do you play it on Windows 7? I see a lot of people doing it on youTube.

Try, this,
Uninstall H2V and Live

Download GFWL 3.1
Download H2V's Latest Update (from years ago)

Disconnect your Internetz

Install H2V, and do not play.

once installed check to see if it works (don't sign in)

close H2V, then install those 2 updates which you have saved.

it was one of the fixes, worked for me.

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

Seems to be totally random. :|

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! IT FINALLY WORKED!!! All I had to do was follow Moifugley's directions, download the updates, and then unplug my internet, and now I can finally play it. Thank you so much!

I did all these steps. Halo 2 did work once before I installed the GFWL 3.1 update then it stopped working, but it was also crashing when I was trying to edit my controls and color...I'm trying to play online. some one help me.

"In the Attempt to gain peace, There will always be War."

This doesn't fix the fact that you can't play it online using this method.
