Halo 2 was my favorite game ever made. Halo 2, I miss you...

11/9/2004-4/15/2010

Oh Halo 2, Microsoft has really let us down this time. They took not only your life, but also the life of the party. I can say that I honestly have shed a tear for this loss, you have been a good friend, helping me take out my anger and making me so happy at the same time. Older, wiser and better than your newer siblings, you will be missed. I will never forget using the "2 free month cards" to only create a new account and ruin lower ranked peoples days, only to have them call me a "modder"... I love you Halo 2. I was there at the beggining and I am glad I was there till the end. I made the horrible mistake of trying to sign in a guest while I was in the last 150, and got booted. I am so pissed at my friend for demanding to play. But it is over, and I made it to:

8 ACCOUNTS USED
4,106 MATCHES LOGGED
40,486 KILLS LOGGED
41,839 DEATHS LOGGED
11,739 ASSISTS LOGGED

P.S., Bungie, now is the time for a Live Arcade port that we can play online... I would cough up another $50 for it easy.

Halo 2, I believe.

Halo 2, your spirit will live on with Reach.

Halo 2, wake me when you need me...

Halo 2, I wish I could've played more with you but Halo 3 greatness overwhelmed your awesomeness. I wish I did otherwise. Farewell

Halo 2,even though I sucked in almost every MP game I played with you,I'll gonna miss you. R.I.P.

  • 04.16.2010 10:33 AM PDT

I wish I played more than I did :(

The less than a second latency of online play is a better system to play off of than more health.

You realize this system is just as host based, right? because if you're fighting host, or someone with a better connection to host, and you each start firing at the same time, his BULLETS will register first, giving him slightly more health if the melees happen at the same time.

So would you rather have the BS of both, or just one?

I loved you for about a year then moved on, feeling a little dissatisfied with Halo 2's experience.

When I upgraded to a new account and 360 you were the first thing I played online, though that lasted only a while.

I haven't played more than maybe half an hour over the past year but this past Tuesday I hopped on and played a few games and for whatever reason it felt incredibly good. Maybe it was nostalgia or the realization that I was playing something I could never play again, but I didn't mind even the less favorable experiences.

Goodbye Halo 2 (and the other xbox classics) you reintroduced me to online gaming (switched to Mac several years ago so limited PC play) and now I look forward to your next iteration.

P.S. I can lay my grievances with you to rest. In hindsight you provided far more fun than any of your game play issues could ever diminish.

I have exactly the same feeling. It felt incredible to be there on the last hurrah!

Not quite sure on why you had to die, but that is the case most of the time. That said, I will save my rage for another forum. ...and with you goes a piece of me. You will be sorely missed. RIP Halo 2.

Thank You Halo 2 For:
Being the game that took gaming to the next level.
Being one of the greatest video games ever made.
Taking out the rage of my day.
Saving me countless dollers at the bar (and pretty much everywhere else).
Being breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
The permanant health meter burned into my 42 inch plasma, a subtle battle scar that I will wear with pride.
Teaching me what true dedication is all about (never spent 30+ hours straight doing anything else).
Sitting forever in lobby on number 2, and then getting booted in mid conversation.
All the blue screens, double shots, quad shots, super bounces, bxb's, bxr's, bxrrx's, yy quik reloads, modders, map leavers, standbyers, quiters, booters, sh$# talkers, and tea baggers.
The lump in my throat on 4-15 when it said "Start Troubleshooter".

...and last but not least,
Thank You Halo 2 for being Halo 2, because you've never played a truly hardcore bada$$ FPS until you've played Halo 2!!!
You have your place in time and will be forever remembered as the game that started it all.

Sending mad shouts out to Halo 2!!! Peace!!!

Best xbox multiplayer game. Many amazing experiences have happened on this game, probably more than any other xbox 360 games moments combined.

Halo 2 set the bar and made online console gaming what it is today. I made friendships and met so many cool people over H2. Looking back I had the -blam!- time of my life playing this game! Hopefully someday in the not too distant future microsoft will grow a soul and release you for the 360 arcade.

Hello! I'm a male!

R.I.P. you were filled with th most illegitimate players of all time and I won't ever forget shoving my BR into there faces through you. I'm going to go cry now. ='(

It's a shame it is against the rules to call you out on your rank, seeing as how the level you play at greatly affects the opinions you hold (on gameplay). Generally, if you are bad - Your opinions are wrong, and your argument is invalid.

GG

Thanks Halo 2 for being a flawed, but great sequel to the best Shooter ever made. My first real introduction to Console gaming as I played Halo 1 on PC primarily.

RIP

XBL: FTG Spartan
But you were dead a thousand times. Hopeless encounters successfully won. A man long dead, grafted to machines your builders did not understand. You follow the path, fitting in to an infinite pattern.
Yours to manipulate, to destroy and rebuild.
Now, in the quantum moment before the closure, when all become one. One moment left. One point of space and time.
I know who you are.
You are Destiny.

Thank you for introducing me to the world of online FPS. I owe a life-long hobby to your creativity.

Some of my best memories are boring weeknights filled with zombies, phantom pistols, tower of power, and endless custom games spent getting out of the maps for no real reason at all. Sure it had some downsides...I'll never forget the first time I got standbyed. Love the blue screen. But overall it was a revolutionary game that every online FPS has incorporated something from since.

Halo 2 you will be missed.
Thank you Bungie

Call me Reach.

Halo 2 really was a cultural event for this generation, as it was the game that really catapulted video games into view as a legitimate entertainment medium, and I'm proud to say that I was one of the last people to ever play it online.

Halo 2 was the first video game that I had ever played online. I feel like I have truly lost a friend. I know there are more important things in the world than a game, but I will miss the times that I had playing it with my buddies.

R.I.P, old sport. You will be missed. Thanks for the memories.

You showed me the Sanheili side of the HALO story in a game. You were there when the local fan-club had its' first official HALO night (the release of HALO 2). I will remember you for as long as I live.

Rest well old friend...

SO SAY WE ALL!

The life of Halo 2, has finally come to a close, the servers are barren, and your greatness was unmatched, and still has been unmatched. Your opening days and several months were some of the best gaming moments in history, you innovated and showed how online play should be, albeit there were things that couldn't be finished, you were great as is.

Halo 2, i treat thee as a person in this moment, for you helped me make new friends over the 2 years we played, I've made friends, I've cried, and I've enjoyed every moment of your presence in my life. You have helped me make a voice of mine. I thank you Bungie, for making such a great game, and i treated her right. Thank you Halo 2, for being the great game that you were, and still are.

I love you all guys, if you think i'm a nerd, you can go die in a fire.

Halo 2:
Who I played every Friday, all night, with my best friend through high school.
Who brought me closer to new friends, in a momentary resurrection of the bygone LAN party.
Who sent controllers into walls.
Whose discs I played to the point of burning, three times.
Whose glitches were humorous and fun to find.
With whom I struggled, until the Scarab Gun was mine.

Who could bless or curse with no-scope, multi-kill, or splatter.
Whose never-ending sudden death caused too much laughter.
Who was an escape, and a reason to take flight from work, coatless, in winter.
Who found me arguing with kids from Idaho in a game lobby.
Whose weapon spawn timers I knew to the second.
Whose levels I so proudly gained to thirty.

Halo 2, your father would be proud.
Another ring like a growing tree or promise kept,
Whose branches now have to Valhalla crept.

You leave a legacy, in every FPS on Live
Halo 2, in my heart, and calloused hands, survive.

Good times...

As much as Halo 1 revolutionized the FPS genre, this game revolutionized online gaming on consoles.

This game has so many good memories. Marathon custom games like zombies, tower of power, and hog wars. Even sessions of escaping maps and exploring them. Maps that are unmatched by any other video game. Customs were fun, whether they were with friends from real life, or Bungie community members.

The matchmaking system was incredible. When I had free time, I could just play matchmaking and not be bored. The multiplayer was fun, had variety, and was quick.

The game lasted years, before the era of buying a game so much more often. For a couple years, Halo 2 was solidly played as the standard Xbox game

It is a game I will miss...

RIP Halo 2

Halo 2, killed by the guardians!

I played almost none stop for two and a half years, untill Halo3 and COD4 came out. But still I played every now and then, even though there wernt many people on line. I wish I had played more in those years, but I was swayed by newer more shiney things. My only consolation is that the final few games I had were some of the best, and bought back how great Halo2 really was.

I will miss the epic big team battles, and theres no other game where you can crouch up and down on someones dead body quite as good as you could in halo2! probabley still the best multiplayer game made and a game that got most of it right the first time. Still way better than Halo 3 and dare I say it probabley reach as well.

It feels like a part of me has died :( you will be missed :(
