R.I.P Halo 2

For all of those days, staying home from school JUST to play you. The absurd time i've put into you, more than any other game i've played in my life.

For the amazingly fun glitches, the awesome campaign and multiplayer.

For all of the times my friends and I got together to play you.

I will miss you Halo 2.

She said " I wish he was you" and I said " He wish he was I"-Lil Weezy

Well what can i say? I was first introduced to you at my friends house. We played for hours splitscreen on Zanzibar, i got dominated because i had NO CLUE what i was doing. But for some reason i adored it. When my Dad got it for me on my birthday since i was out of work, i was dissappointed when i only got Halo 1 and Halo 2. At the time Halo 3 was already out, and that's what i wanted. Halo 2 was my first online FPS, and i feel very proud of that. I've had plenty of fun with super bounces, sticky launches, and staying up all night watching Walshy and other pros play on Lockout on youtube. The funny thing is, since i got it late, i never had to pay for the maps. I remember my first random cross-map sticky and how i freaked out and threw my controller and told my friend all about it. But i guess it's time to lay it to rest. As nerdy as this sounds, i have tears in my eyes right now. It's not even the fact h2 is gone. I promised to play at least one more time before it got shut-down... I was playing MW2 [/wrists]. I love and miss you h2.

May 11 will be known as Halo 2 Day for me from now on.

Well Ive been in the Navy since June 25, 2009 and its a fun job right now.

You were the reason I got XBL and for about a year Halo 2 was all I played even though other XBOX 360 games were out. RIP Halo 2 I will not get rid of you in my game collection.

EGO mos bulla astrum.

Halo 2, I only knew your multiplayer for a short time, but I know that it's only true successor is your little sister Reach. May your memory lay to rest here.

RIP Halo 2 (Best Game Ever made for any platform) 4/15/10, Halo 2 was the greatest game ever. Even though it had some problems such as modding, button combos, SMG starts and Superjumps, it was by far the greatest game ever made. Thank you Bungie for all the wonderfull years on this game.I will miss you Halo 2 <3.

It's "Gashnor", not "Gashner", there's an O in there.

It's actually terribly sad to see that generation finally fully die off. I turned on my original Xbox a few days ago to screw around with modded content I had downloaded. I was never able to get XBL since I didn't have a credit card at 15, not until I bought my Xbox 360 at 17 in 2006 was I able to get on Xbox LIVE.

I had so many fun modded items in there. It was obviously all for my own enjoyment, I never was able to exploit it on Xbox LIVE, I just enjoyed running around with the Jackal Shield, invincibility on Metropolis w/ dual Scarab Guns, all the fun stuff.

I salute you, Bungie. You've made the greatest Xbox LIVE game ever made. MW2 has more people, but it doesn't compete. Halo 2 was the king of Xbox LIVE until Halo 3 came out, beating out all games, including Gears of War, and even after Halo 3 it reigned supreme over the original Xbox titles.

Congratulations, Bungie. Not many developers can make a game as bug ridden as Halo 2 and have it remain incredible. The bugs were so... perfect in the game. Superbouncing was amazing when I found out about it (again, before I had XBL), BxB and BxR were glitches, but fun to see people do. Sword lunging was incredible until it got patched... I wish to one day erase my Hard Drive's cache on my 360 or original Xbox to go back to those old days. Lunging across the lake on Delta Halo is still my favorite memory.

So, again, congrats to Bungie, congrats to Apache for sticking it out for 3 1/2 weeks. The era is finally over, 5 years later, Bungie, your game is still in video game news. I wish I could have stuck around longer in Halo 2, but, wishing will get me nowhere.

Were it so easy.

Everytime someone sacks my groceries, I think of Loaf.

Halo II, you rocked my world with your multiplayer awesomeness. You pioneered the xbox live multiplayer mode and inspired clans, game tournaments, and MLG. You will never be forgotten. I will always own you...actually two of you.

Rest In Peace Multiplayer Flagship, Halo 2

And Final Few, my heart goes out to you. You all did what no one else could........fight back. You're all heroes and none of those "prizes" you got can compare to what you deserve!

Thanks Halo 2, for being the first Halo game I ever played with friends. You brought the world of FPS gaming into the light for me, and with it, my purchase of Halo 1. That's what kicked it all off.

You'll be missed, old friend. A LAN will be done in your honor, to be sure.

"I am not mad.
I am interested in freedom."

Halo 2,

I really don't know what to say, old friend. I'm just going to open my heart to you and pour my thoughts. I don't think anyone else aside from the people who actually got a chance to know you can actually understand what we feel. You weren't just a game, Halo 2. You were more than that. You were the most important Xbox Live game of its time. You single-handedly popularized online gaming. You set the golden standard for all FPS's. Hell, for all online games. You set the standard for fun.

But you were even more than that, Halo 2. You were a part of our lives, of my life. You changed lives, for the better. Right now, there's another player sitting at his desk, reading this, absentmindedly nodding his head as I pour out these sentiments, because you didn't just change me. You changed all of us. And we love you for it.

We love you for not just what you were, but what you did for us. You opened us up to so many mediums in a way no other game had before. You put competitive gaming in the spotlight. You put matchmaking systems in the spotlight. You put Xbox Live in the spotlight. You put machinima in the spotlight. You put all of us in the spotlight as we played you, and took a part in history that none of us realized until now.

You see, we didn't appreciate you while you were here. We thought you would always be here, and we were so very wrong. When I see a remembrance video, or I read threads like these, I choke up. Because of what you were. Because of what you did. Because I, no, we love you.

So thank you, Halo 2. Thank you for giving me hours of good fun. Thank you for showing me the beauty of machinima in a way that I had never seen. Thank you, for allowing Rooster Teeth to continue their work. Thank you for showing me Hollywood Halo. Thank you for allowing me to give my own try at machinima with our good friend Chewbaccasjello.

Thank you for the insane killing sprees that were a result of luck. Thank you for the glitches. Thank you for the intense SWAT matches. Thank you for the sniper battles. Thank you for the legendary BTB matches on Coagulation. Thank you for ilovebees. Thank you for the effects we see from you today, such as Halo 3, Halo: Reach, and the Iris ARG before Halo 3.

Thank you for the story. Thank you for the story that's still going on today. Thank you for the memories of ilovebees and the successor, Iris. Thank you for my clan and clansmen, USH Team Thunder. And thank you for the friends.

With you, I met some of the most important people in my life right now. TheFourthHokage(now ShadowySyn), Stanforth, Ho88s, OutrageousFox, Sgt Gun Mage.

Thank you for the friends I no longer speak with, like Paper Donkey, a certain Stabber, and Chewbaccasjello.

And thank you for the friends that I will never see again. Amateur Gamer 99, An Angry Hippy, Nobhdy, cobbleswobblet, and so many more that I don't have on my friends list anymore. I see that green X on the white background, as I have for the past several years, and I know that I will probably never see them again. But they will remain there. And they, and the memory of them, will remain in my heart. Just as you will. Forever.

Thank you, Halo 2. For changing my life. Thank you, for giving me such great memories. Thank you, Halo 2, for giving my so many glimpses into pure happiness. Thank you, Halo 2, for April 14th, 2010. Thank you, Halo 2, for giving me the chances and the fun that I had. Thank you, Halo 2, for the memories.

I love you.

Goodbye.

Halo 2 (online),
I know you can't read this because you are in a better place now, but I just wanted to tell you that I'm sorry I neglected you when your sequel came out. I'm really, really, really sorry about that. But I just want you to know that even though I didn't play you much after that, you are the reason that I, or anybody else that I know personally, plays XBOX on Live. You were what started it all for me and I personally thank you for it. I've gone through many phases in my Live 'life': an achievement-whore phase (in one summer, I earned about 14,000 points), a Halo Wars phase (one of the first generals), and my ever-continuing Halo 3 SWAT phase whose roots lie in your SWAT playlist. It was through Halo 2 that I have become what I am today, for better or for worse, and I am thankful for that.
I will never forget my very first encounter EVER with online XBOX Live gaming- My friends and I were hanging out and playing some Halo 2. We decided to go Live, a concept new to me. The first game that came up was FFA Rockets on Colossus. All of my friends responded to the selection with a strong "UGHHHH" but I was curious and intrigued by the sound of this. The match started and I tried to fire a rocket at an enemy across the map from me but all I heard was "Click". I was thinking "What? What's wrong?". I try again..."Click". Everybody on the map was trying to fire a rocket at the exact same time and was causing so much lag that the rockets were being delayed for a moment. We were looking around at each other like "What's going on?" and, all of a sudden, everybody's rockets just come out of nowhere and a couple people randomly got hit. My reaction- "WHOOOOAAHHHHHHH.....". To secure this, what would soon be seen as long-lived, addiction my friends threw me into a "Big Team Battle" match. The sheer insanity of this many people battling it out in one map was enough for (all) Halo and even XBOX Live to capture my heart. It was at that exact moment that Halo 2 changed me forever and I will never forget it.
I leave you now with a small poem by Dylan Thomas that some of you may know called "Do Not Go Gently Into That Good Night":

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rage at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be -blam!-,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

R.I.P Halo 2-
You will forever remain in our hearts
as I know we were always in yours.

P.S.- Just so you know, we Spartans did continue on to finish your fight ;)
Amen

Halo 2 had the most amazing online experience ever, I played Halo 2 probably 90% of the time I was playing original Xbox; the game-play was always fun, even when it was aggravating.
