I remember it so clearly - I was at my friend JP's house playing Halo when he showed me the E3 2003 trailer for Halo 2. It was magical to me - probably what sent me into being an Animation student in general. I know I'm not alone in saying that Halo 2 was an important part of my life, and I can honestly say that I will look back at my late teens and the first thing I will think of is Halo.
It wasn't only playing Halo that was important, but it was always the community. Hell, I could argue that the best part of Halo 2 was before the game even came out, commenting on this message board. I must have made hundreds of posts speculating, hoping, and making friends that i couldn't wait to play with on Xbox Live. I'm sure most of you don't remember ilovebees.com, or how the Arbiter was leaked in french a few days before release, but i will never forget it. With the amount of time i spent scrolling up and down these pages - well lets just say i could have been spending that time getting straight As in school, but looking back i have no regrets.
I was 15 when I went to the midnight release, wearing a makeshift Mjolnir helmet i made for the fanart thread. I was so excited to play Halo 2 on the day it was born, hell if i'm not excited to play it on its last day. What i consider to have been the best gaming experience of my life now ends, and a new chapter begins. Where i am now in my life is a result of your work, Bungie. Your influence was amazing, and i hope you leave a mark on people of the future as you have left on me.
Rest in peace, Halo 2. I have so many memories with you it's beyond silly. Farewell, Halo 2 forum. And Bungie - I don't know if you've ever read any of my posts, but if you're out there, Thank you.
