A few days ago I posted this is the Universe Forum. It only go about a 50% like reception, so I will see what peopel think here.
It seems that the "remastering" of video games has been a fairly successful endeavor among companies. Many classic arcade games have been remastered in HD on Xbox Live, along with more modern games such as god of war collection. Remastered games have been a great success. This coincides with the success of remastered movies.
It is important to differentiate between a remaster and a remake. A remaster is like a upgrade, and a remake is a redo. God of War Collection was a remastering. Nothing was changed, it was just updated to a modern resolution. The same thing goes for Halo 2 Vista. Textures, everything else, the same. The same goes for Blu-Ray discs. Many older movies are remastered in high definition with the content left the same.
On the other hand, a remake would be final fantasy 7 remade on the PS3 with new content with modern day graphics, not simply a graphical overhaul.
Anyway, he point of this thread is this: Selling remasters is proven to work, and Halo 2 has already been remastered for the PC, with high resolution graphics. Especially since Xbox Originals are being cut from online support, and Halo 2 is highly played, Microsoft could stand to profit from releasing a remaster of Halo 1 and 2 on a single disc, much like God of War 1 and 2. I have played Halo 2 on my HDTV, and it looks pretty crappy running at 480p. It would be nice to get some 720p graphical supporrt not just for Halo 2, but also for many other older games with good graphics and high popularity. Many older games have graphics good enough to benefit from such a release. I think that companies should take interest in going on a slow process of re-releasing older games.
Most notably, Halo 2, on a 360 disc, in 720p res, with full online support.
Thoughts?
Then This was the next 2 posts.

personally I think that the low end graphics (by todays standards) give a nice nostalgic feel to Halo CE and H2 and helps the game feel like it use to back when they were just released
I totally agree. Which is why I tried to explained "remastering." Im not saying change the graphics, only tweak the resolution for modern HDTV's so that the image isnt pixelated. Play Halo 1 or 2 for Pc and you can immediatly see the difference. The game is crisper and less blurry because the res is higher than its Xbox counterparts. I totally agree with you, and I hope people reading understand that by no means do I believe the originals should be changed in any way, only made to support modern TV's. The outdated graphics do ad to the nostalgia.

To sum all this up, I'm basically saying Halo 2 (+ CE) should be released on a single disc remastered to run at 720p resoultion, with NOTHING ELSE CHANGED. Alternatively it could be released as a download on XBL, this seems like a popular idea. I dont really understand why I havent had good reception to this. I would buy it, certainly for the continued online support and HD resolution. The graphics would look nearly as good as Halo 3.
Thoughts?
