Subject: Is / will there be any possible way to obtain DLC without XBL?

I'm just asking because I got rid of my Xbox 360 awhile back and unfortunately haven't gotten a new one yet, and in the meanwhile the whole hullabaloo came and went about Xbox Live support for Xbox Originals being pulled tonight.

During this time I obviously wasn't able to download the DLC for Halo 2, and so I'm just wondering: will there be any avenue for people like me who want to obtain it to do so? Or what happens going forward when the HDD in someone's console crashes and they lose the saved data?

I'm not advocating for piracy or anything but technically neither Microsoft and Bungie are going to make a penny off any Xbox Originals DLC from here on out, so will there be any possible way of using the Xbox 360's new USB storage feature to store and copy DLC from the 360 to PC / vice versa? Or will Bungie come up with some legitimate means to obtain the files here through the website?

Thanks, I suppose there's always Halo 2 for Windows but afaik it doesn't come with the two bonus maps from the console version and I never got to play those.

-Sic transit gloria mundi

The first nine muliplayer DLC maps were released on disc in the "Halo 2 Multiplayer Map pack." So you might be able to find that somewhere.
As for Desolation and Tombstone, I don't know.

If I had a Rocket Launcher...

Shut up and get behind me... Sir!

The cable. I'm going to cut it.

Awesomeness would ensue.

Indeed. If you don't have Desolation and Tombstone, you're pretty much screwed.

The Map Pack also came with a damn fine instruction booklet that details each and every map in the pack, and gives a few tips from Bungie itself.

A more civilized manual, from a more civilized age. Back when instruction manuals were more than simply a page and a half. I swear, some day I will open a case to find a folded piece of A4.

I'd like to know also... Friend sent me a msg from Halo 2 today and went to listen to it (required me to fire up Halo 2 on my 360). Apparently, it's been a while since I played it and a download/update was required, so I downloaded it. Did not go well apparently as I rec'd a msg telling me to reload it (corrupted or unreadable). So I deleted the "game data" file and - all my dlc, which was all the dlc maps for Halo 2, went bye-bye with it. Ouch. So, even tho I can't play these online, I could have and would have played them via system link or split screen.

Guess I'll try to find the map pack disk somewhere... H2MP, I'll be missin' ya. <sniff>

P.S. You can find the disc on Amazon from $4 (disc only) to $30 new (box, artwork, manual). Just checked.

I forgot about the multiplayer map pack disc. I bought that back when it came out. Its probably not very easy to locate these days. Yeah, Desolation and Tombstone are the names. They look like fun maps and I'm curious if those are two I'll never get to play, but oh well if that's the case.

There are some other goodies for Xbox Originals out there too, like the Kola Cell & Vselka Submarine missions for Splinter Cell / various maps for Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory / the Hurricane Packs for Ninja Gaiden, etc.

Same issue here with Tomebstone etc. I have the disc and everything for all of the other maps.

Shoot, that's a bummer. Sorry your maps got wiped by accident. I suppose this is one of the concerns many people are having as digital content distribution continues to grow. Where is your recourse when the cloud is the only place to obtain goods and the whole service gets pulled?

I'm looking into the possibility of editing an image of the map pack disc to replace one of the existing packs with the blastacular one. Wouldn't work on Live, but that's not a problem. Should run fine on LAN/VPN.

With the usb storage is it possible to, you know distribute them? or would that be illegal or not possible due to the usb being linked to the 360?
