Tastes like chicken...

My theory is that we were asked to have our last games of halo 2 to try and show microsoft that we still use the xbox live service on xbox originals, we may have been asked to go on to prove that we still want the option to play it on live and that its still worth it to keep the service running?
Just a thought...

Or they could just be collecting data like they said they were and maybe still need the servers up to retrieve them, i did hear somewhere that it would end at 8pm though.

I vote for the 2nd alternative.

Wayne Jarvis, Attorney at Law; I have a responsibility to tell you that there is no candy in this office.

Realistically, it's probably more like this:

Somewhere, there is an office building where people work from 9-5, and someone as the ability to end Xbox live.

Around 4:48 or so, that guy is going to make a lame joke to his nearby coworkers- "Forgive me, freakybeasty69," before he ends it, and then he ends it.

No one is sitting there ready to flip a giant switch at 12:00

Video games are my favourite video games.

My theory is that we are just too pretty for God to let us die. So far, it seems to hold up pretty well.

you cannot compare Halo 3 to Reach, Reach is not a game, its a disc in a plastic green case called pure fail.

Got it? good.

you'd think though that this would be an automated shutdown though . . . guess they just don't have that technology yet lol

Realistically, I doubt there is one master switch to shut everything down. In reality, each major time zone probably has a data center that supports xbox live and its services. I would guess also that each original xbox game has services running also that supports its ability to connect to the service. So they probably have to take all of those services down for each and every game in each and every data center. Also shutting things off in nice and easy minimizes the risk of it borking things up for the current iteration of services that support the xbox360 live connectivity. My guess also is that the halo 2 online services running will be among the last if not the last to be taken offline.

You could test this theory if you still have any other original xbox games. You could fire them up to see if they can still connect to live or not.

I would bet that things are going offline starting today but it will take time for everything, everywhere to go dark.
