"It's not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines me"

- Batman

1) Good, I made sure that in at least one game I only got 7 kills. Halo 2 has so many good maps, I have really missed them from current online multiplayer games.

2) Honestly I havn't noticed a difference. But I didn't play one laggy game.

3) I was a fan of Halo 2 from the start (it was and still is my favourite game) but I got Live after Halo 3. It was a blast playing my favourite maps from split screen online for the first time.

4) I am sad that I wont be able to re download the final map pack as I had to go on holiday before I had time to :(

I laugh at your pitifall attempts to defeat me!

1. The final 2 days have been pretty exciting for me. I never had LIVE going on my original Xbox so I didn't really get to play Halo 2 online. I also didn't know I could get online through my 360 so I thought that was it. Hearing I could actually do so I jumped online straight away and it's been great. I even felt the same I would when I was getting ready to play a new Halo game. I was really looking forward to seeing how the Halo 2 experience was. Playing on the classic maps are great and I duel-wield a lot more (Magnum and SMG are beast). I needed to time to adjust, mind, after coming from Halo 3. Glad I got to experience it before it was put to bed.

2. Not knowing the state of the servers before-hand I wouldn't know, but they've been pretty busy since I jumped on.

3. I played the game loads offline with Campaign and MP.

4. I recently started playing through the Campaign again so it's not been that long since I booted it up. Hearing Halo 2's Mjolnir Mix is always a pleasure.

"Paradox is a pointer telling you to look beyond it. If paradoxes bother you, that betrays your deep desire for absolutes. The relativist treats a paradox merely as interesting, perhaps amusing, or even, dreadful thought, educational." - Leto II

1) What have the final few days of Halo 2 been like, any favourite moments so far?

Very nostalgic. I've been remembering things about Halo 2 that I had long forgotten. Some things I enjoy and miss in Halo 3, and some things I'm sure glad are gone. SWAT in Halo 2 is more enjoyable than in Halo 3, so I'll miss that. One of my favorite moments was the during the "last game" around 3 AM Est, when for some reason everyone decided that the winner of the game would get Recon armor in Halo Reach. They proposed that we tie, and nobody should fire. Well, I had no intention of wasting my final game of Halo 2 peacefully, so I went in with all guns blazing. They resisted for a while, but eventually everyone started fighting.

2) Have the servers suddenly got busier than usual because old Xbox Live is being shut down?

Oh yeah. I even got a few games in the Team Hardcore playlist. I was getting BTB games very quickly in those last few hours as well.

3) How often did you play the game in the past?

I have played maybe 20 games since Halo 3 came out, and I've played about 120 game of Halo 2 in the past two days, including an 8 hour marathon yesterday. It was a lot of fun.

4) Has anyone gone back to the game after a long time away from it?

Yeah, like I said above, I didn't play for probably 2 years after Halo 3 came out, then I played a few games, and didn't play for a while again. Getting used to pressing that X button to reload again can take a little while.

Also, I recognized your name, and I realized that I actually played game with you just a little while ago. Here's the link:
http://www.bungie.net/Stats/GameStatsHalo2.aspx?gameid=803127 372&player=squidNH3

That was quite an exciting game, but the winner got me at the end.

This is my Signature. It makes me proud.

1) Been awesome, been good to revist Halo 2 before it goes and then move onto the Reach beta... timing couldn't be better...even for such a sad day.

2) The servers seem better than ever at the moment, no lag , I'm amazed!!

3) On my old account...every frikkin day! 24/7

4) Ive been back a few times, for nostalgias sake.

Awesome game. Going to miss the online RIP....

  • 04.15.2010 1:28 PM PDT

1) These final days have been awesome! The knowledge that this will all be over soon makes every memory worthwhile. The easter eggs Bungie has put in the tips box are funny too.

2)Oh yeah! Last night i checked, there were 12,000 people online. That's about 11,500 more than on a usual day.

3)I played the game every day before Halo 3 came out. I played it on my original xbox. I got the 360 when Halo 3 cam out.

4)Yes! It has been ages since I last played, Literally! After about an hour, my old reflexes began to kick in and I was rockin the BR and smokin with the SMG. I invited a friend who had never played Halo 2 but is a good halo 3 buddy. He recovered his account and we played for hours.

It was awesome!

Headlong - BR starts - last game of Halo 2. Never forget.

REAL Mancannon!!!

1) What have the final few days of Halo 2 been like, any favourite moments so far?

It started off on a bad note as I didn't remember how to play. Got a lot better towards the end, and my last game was my favourite gametype on my favourite map.

2) Have the servers suddenly got busier than usual because old Xbox Live is being shut down?

Yes.

3) How often did you play the game in the past?

In summer of 2007, I played it for hours every day. Died down after that due to school.

4) Has anyone gone back to the game after a long time away from it?

Not that I know.

1) The final days have been amazing. The nostalgia that I got from coming back to Halo 2 almost brought a tear to my eye, as did reading some of these replies. As for favorite moments, I remember the days where people escaping maps mid-game was popular. In one such game, both teams broke out of Foundation, and we proceeded to screw around out of the map, through Sword-canceling and other things, until the time limit ran out. I'll never forget that.

2) Definitely. Matches can (could, *tear*) be found in mere minutes, rather than a whopping 20-30 minutes.

3) I played Halo 2 every day, right after I got home from school. Looking back on it, it took up much more of my time than I would have liked, but I regret nothing. Sadly, I lost my old Gamertag a while back, so all those games are no longer displayed for me. I'd like to look back through my list on my Service Record for nostalgia's sake, but I can't. :'(

4) Of course, what real fan wouldn't? I would expect everyone who truly loved Halo 2 to come back and pay their due respects.

  • 04.15.2010 1:47 PM PDT

Well I guess I better put some pants on.

I feel like I'm gonna break this thing!

1) What have the final few days of Halo 2 been like, any favourite moments so far?

They've been great. I've gotten to play with a whole bunch of members from the Bungie community that I've seen on the forums but never played with before and, in general, they've been awesome to play with.

2) Have the servers suddenly got busier than usual because old Xbox Live is being shut down?

I wouldn't really know because I didn't use to play it much, but I have come against the same people in matchmaking a lot, so it hasn't gotten that busy.

3) How often did you play the game in the past?

Not very much because I didn't have xbox live until three years ago, and then I waited for Halo 3.

4) Has anyone gone back to the game after a long time away from it?

I hadn't played the game in years, and neither had some of my friends, so yes.

WARNING! INCORRECT USING THIS FEATURES MAY CAUSE YOUR SYSTEM BROKEN!

1. What have the final few days of Halo 2 been like, any favourite moments so far?
A. Well it's been quite sad watching a part of my childhood get torn away but I'm not as bothered as I know some people are because I have Halo 2 Vista and you can still get on Halo 2 Xbox over the web using Xbox Connect, you might want to mention that so people know there is that alternative there for them.

2. Have the servers suddenly got busier than usual because old Xbox Live is being shut down?
A. Yes, they have got alot busier. There is usually only 1000 people on Halo 2 on a good day but on the 14th that shot right up to inbetween 9000 and 10000. Infact even thought the servers have already been shut down anyone who was signed in when that happened can still play! So there are 50 people still online in Halo 2 with their Xboxs packed in ice so they don't explode, but it's only a matter of time before they get kicked off or their Xboxs red ring from the stress.

3. How often did you play the game in the past?
A. I personally played atleast 3 times a month on xbox alone but much more often on PC as there is a larger amount of people playing there.

4. Has anyone gone back to the game after a long time away from it?
A. Since hearing the news that it would go offline on the 15th I have tried to make the most of it and played more often than usual. My friends however haven't, they think Halo 2 is crap because the graphics are old and the game is outdated. but those 2 thiongs have never stopped me from playing Marathon, God that game is addictive.

Anyway hope these help with your article if you do need to mention my name at all my gamertag is: Sgt El Zilcho

Playing Halo 2 one last time was like visiting my best friend on his death bed.

I hadn't seen him in a while, and felt guilty about it.

I am finding it amazing that history is being made here too.

Never before has a "major shutdown" like this happened on modern consoles.

Are we making this type of thing the norm for future gamers? When the next phase out happens, will this type of sadness be replicated?

Regardless of what does happen, the XBox 1 phaseout is going to be remembered as a major event in gaming history - and I think the biggest reason for that is the loss of Legendary Halo 2 to the online lobby in the sky.

Lewis Belding: I got 18 people in my hotel! Where are they gonna go?
The Stranger: Out.

Hey Monobrow, here's the views of a Scottish insomniac... ;-)

1. Being in the UK or Europe meant staying up into the wee small hours...I started playing at 5pm GMT, and sat right through until 1.30pm the next day, stopped for two hours and then carried on again until 3.30am-ish...The longest time I've played continuously since GTA San Andreas came out...

The best part was hanging out with some new found friends on the first night, met them at about 10pm and stayed in the same party until 1.30...So special shoutouts to ivantrembow, Codejunky, oOMrCheeseyOo, detwiler, Firecrest, ViolatedManatee, ViewtifulBacon and the rest....

Oh and making the last 566 players was pretty awesome too! :-)

2. The servers were definitely a lot busier than in the past on Halo 2...far quicker to get into matches, and far easier to find people in things other than Rumble Pit and Big Team Battle...

3. Used to play the game for hours back in the day, but mostly via System Link at my mates...getting 16 people in 4 different rooms, filling them with alcohol and pizza and watching the bodies and abuse fly was always a laugh...but when I finally got LIVE last year, I played this quite regularly, but it was really hard to find a match sometimes...

4. Like I said, I played it when the mood took me...I actually preferred the multi-player to Halo 3 online...it just seemed faster paced!

It's been the most I've enjoyed LIVE ever over the last few days though...for the last hours on Wednesday, right through Thursday, all the usual Trash-talking and mic-abuse stopped...people were just chatting away and having a laugh, or sharing their grief at the passing of Halo 2..You really got a sense of community! I added 10 friends to my Friend List that night, the most I've ever added at one time...

It was a true event as far as I'm concerned...up there with The Millennium, or Woodstock or something... :-)

I'll never forget the last couple of days, probably because most of them are burned into my retinas from staring at the screen too long....I just hope that Reach gives the same satisfaction...

its been a long time now since the french version got leaked, (Sorry bungie but I had to play it since one of my friends brought it round on a disk and ploped it in my lap and said wouldnt it be cool if halo2 was on that disk!!!)

anyway i feel i did no major wrong as I was one of the many waiting in line to get my copy at midnight, and now i`m playing after the shutdown.

I still have yet to manage finishing halo 1, 2 & 3 in one sitting. so plenty more fun to come.

Any jobs going for game testers within bungie? I can start monday!!

  • 04.17.2010 10:23 AM PDT

1) I have been playing non-stop since April 14th and finally got off once the Halo 2 project page on Bungie.net let me know that there were less than 40 players online. My favorite moment would probably be one last game of Zombies on Foundation.

2) I wouldn't say they got busier. The traffic increased because people wanted to get their last games in, but before that it was pretty much impossible to find a Team Slayer match.

3) I've had multiple gamertags, but the one I've had the longest, which is my current (F1rsTxLas7) has nearly 9500 games played. I've played it since the first day it came out, which, in a bizar twist of fate, led me to miss school :)

4) I'll admit, I haven't played it in a long time before this month started, but it's not totally my fault. Like I said previously, it was so hard to find a match and all of my friends had moved onto H3 or other games. I would've stayed forever if Bungie kept updating playlists and friends were online.'

P.S. H2 > H3

  • 04.17.2010 10:33 AM PDT

A Halo 2 Glitch Master, "retired" since i couldn't find anything good in Halo 3, hoping for a come back. I'm a huge Marathon fan too. If you want to verse me, please message me through my Bungie.net profile.
My weapon of choice is the warthog (Driving); I'm one of the best drivers out there, so if i get my hand on a vehicle, you're going to wish i hadn't XD

April 20th I became one of the final 30 people to play Halo 2 online. Unfortunately I was kicked by Microsoft that day.

1) For me, the final days (many days cause im still playing halo 2 online) has been the most perfect, if it wasn't for the "death-threat" from the fact that if we log off we can't play halo 2 online anymore. I've met so many new, good friends who arn't horrible people, and they really love halo 2 like me.

2) on april 15th the servers were full, and i mean very full! of course now it's the 16th and there's only around 50 people playing now, so we are know as the Final 50. Microsoft won't be able to stop me playing my game of halo 2 for a very long time. That I can assure you =(

3) in the past and present I have played Halo 2, and it's literally my favorite videogame of all time.it's been 5 or 6 years, and regardless of the horrible thing microsoft has done, this game has stood the test of time. If you noticed, Halo 2 has more features than the latest Call of Duty game! it's just that good.

4) besides the final 500, 300, and final 50 and 30, many people that I know came to play Halo 2 on the 15th. But of course it got really awsome when the "noobs" left, and all the hardcore videogamers (the final 500) were the only ones left. Everyone was polite, and said "good Game" to everyone after, and we all had discussions concerning every Halo game, and a few other things.

Of course it's the 17th, and me and plenty of others are playing Halo 2 right now, and I hope to continue playing, maybe possibly proving it to Microsoft that Halo 2 needs to stay online.

Hi

Halo 2 made me wanna pay for XBL, and introduced me Online Gaming. Before it gaming was just play the story mode, buy another game. It changed a lot of things in my life and im glad it went out with a bang!
If it comes back as a full arcade game with multiplayer, i'd pay like 5000 microsoft points. Its THAT good.

Don't be irreplaceable; if you can't be replaced, you can't be promoted.

1) What have the final few days of Halo 2 been like, any favourite moments so far?

The final days were great, the community really stepped it up and gave this game the goodbye it deserved.

2) Have the servers suddenly got busier than usual because old Xbox Live is being shut down?

Yes, Bungie itself promoted the closing of Halo 2, the made an event for every loyal Bungie-fan to join in and play with them on the last day.

3) How often did you play the game in the past?

I have played this game quite a lot, back in the days it was a rough time for me to play online, we did not have a creditcard.
So what I did was making use of xboxconnect and play online through systemlink. As a matter of fact, that still is possible.

4) Has anyone gone back to the game after a long time away from it?

Well, as I pointed out before, loyal old players/fans came back to give Halo 2 its earned farewell.

Will miss Halo 2 forever, HDD is awesome.

1) Final days have been epic, favourite moment definately was the coolest splatter on coagulation, grenade sent the warthog flying into my opponent = pure awesome.
2) I'd think so became pretty easy to find a game.
3) TOO MUCH! playing with my bro and buddies in to the early hours too many times, didn't play on this account but on my brothers on the original xbox- logging about 14,000 games.
4) I always made sure i played Halo 2 with my bro from time to time, I switched to Halo 3 as soon as it came out but played Halo 2 with peeps often, to remember the amazingness.

Halo 2 was a life changing game, the greatest game to date.

Shouldn't this thread have more entries....Monobrow has work to do! ;-)

This is the average H2 Fanboy.
Xfire: JacobGRocks.
50 in H2/H3? Great, but you still fail at this.

1 Far easier to find a match. Any playlist could give you a match.

2. Yes. There were more people on all the xbox original games i tried. And there were a lot of people before the shutdown.

3. A lot when my 360 broke. Then i played the pc version a lot as it was easier to find a game.

4. Plenty of people have. Even the bungie staff members were playing it when they shut it down.
