"Freedom is the freedom to say that two plus two make four. If that is granted, all else follows." 1984, Orwell

Of all the enemies I've faced in firefight, I have the most trouble with the Cheiftans. The ones with the Fuel rod guns are not extremely difficult to beat, but I can't f-ing get the hammers in close corners without dying a few times. Tried rockets and sniper, but he puts up his shield immediatley, and that doesn't give me enough time to run away (specially when there's another hammer brute right around the corner) Tips one what weapon to use against w/out activating the shield (don't suggest hammer) and tips for melee against them.

When playing with multiple people have one person get his attention and then run and while the chieftan is chasing him someone else come up behind him and punch him. shooting his helmet off and then shooting him in the head also works.

Are thier weapons that don't trigger his shield? Pistol, AR, etc?

Sometimes you can shoot their helmet off with the BR and then headshot them for an easy kill. I have found they won't even use their shield then.

they will always put their shield up if you dont kill them quick enough with every gun.

Plasma pistol overcharge and then headshot with the pistol.

hmmm, last question though, is I like to play alone sometimes, and going head to head with a hammer ain't easy. I've tried dodging it like I would dodge a hunter, but It usually doesn't work. Like if I do manage to dodge him the first time, but don't get to kill him in time from behind, I'm always dead from the rebound swing. Is that swing avoidable?

Jumping usually allows me to live. If you want to see an easy way to kill the chieftans look at my screenshots called ninja pt 1-6. I jump over his head turn in mid air and punch him b4 i hit the ground.

Then there are the people who poop in the mash potatoes. Those people get launched out on their asses.

Run and shoot. They are jerks.

I dont get how they are so fast. Their like 8 feet tall, have lots of armor and carry huge hammers yet they run like ninjas.

Very simple. Although sticky 'nades don't stick to chieftans, flame grenades will, because it's not really the grenade sticking to them, it's the flames. It's the first chieftans in firefight that are the worst, because you don't have their weapons. With some of their own weapons (hammer, FRG) they're a piece of cake.

you can stick a chieftan. I've done it. You have to hit his hammer.

This has never failed. Just run, keep getting distance, maybe skidding through some obstacles to widen the gap. If you're in a team, have one person distract the Brute as another one proceeds for an assassination. This is very effective.

If you're alone, try knocking off their shields with an overcharge and go for a headshot/ or Run and Gun.

For me, I just snipe 'em, or try to stick them before they charge to knock off their shields.

On the note that there's a possibility of facing [i[two[/i] Chieftains at a time, you'd better be in a group. Otherwise, get some sort of advantage man. You can hop up to higher ground and shoot them as they find the stairs or maul the wall in front of them.

I love it when they maul the wall. My tactic for them is: Jump over head, melee on head, repeat. Same with hunters, only hit them in the back. Grab the hammer and go.
TIP: Do not use the hammer on anything else but Chieftains, Hunters, or when you are in a situation with no cover under heavy fire.

1. Get to higher ground. Chieftains can't jump until after they have activated their Invincibility.

2. Assassination. Target one Chieftain at a time. Never attempt to assassinate a Chieftain when his Chieftain buddies are around.

3. Throw grenades. Chieftains evade, especially when Tough Luck is turned on. Allows you to delay and run away.

4. Vehicle splatter. Invincibility can't stop vehicles (I think?).

Yes, you can still splatter a chieftain with its invincibility activated.

On normal difficulty, you can hit it with a plasma pistol overcharge and then use the automag to pop its helmet off and land the headshot.

On heroic difficulty or higher, hit it with a plasma pistol overcharge and then hit it in the face with a single rocket. Any explosive weapon (brute shot, fuel rod, laser, grenades, SMG) will cause it to instantly activate its invincibility. Firebombs work well on the chieftains, but only after its invincibility has been depleted. You can still try for the headshot with the automag or carbine, but keep in mind that you will need more ammo at higher difficulties.
