Does anybody know how they are going to do the ranking system in halo 2, ecause if they do it the same way as splinter cell PT im gonna get really pissed off. I hated it how the only way you could lvl up is to go in a ranked game, but all the ranked games were hosted by high levels. THe only way people go high lvls in that was they had their friend rent it and have him host a server in which he could win all the time. In my opinion that was the stupidest ranking system of all time. I think a ranking method that was used by rainbow six 3 would be MUCH better, because it keeps track of your overall kills/deaths but it doesnt have ranked games and unranked games, and it doesn't have that stupid lvl up system.

I'm sure Bungie won't make it unfair to people who aren't that good, so they will probably use a ranking system like the one found in Rainbow Six 3.

What does leveling up in SC:PT get you?

the leveling up in sc pt just shows how much skill u have, but it sucks big time because when you win you gain points and when you lose, you lose points, so in theory its good, but think about this, a fairly decent person who has a 1:1 ratio of wins to losses is a level 0, so its really stupid, and everybody hates level zeroes, so unless your really really good right from the start it sucks

I think the game SOCOM 2 has the best ranking system. The only problem with it and every other ranking system is this and it makes me mad.

ALL OF THOSE GAMES REWARD YOU MORE ON HOW MUCH AND HOW OFTEN YOU PLAY THE GAME. IM SICK OF BEING BETTER THAN SOME OF THE BETTER RANKED PEOPLE, BUT I GET A CRAPPY RANKING DUE TO THE FACT THAT I DONT PLAY THE GAME EVERY DAMB DAY.

They need to devide your kills, deaths, headshots and what original rank you would get by the hours played, so that when i only play the game 3 hours a week, but kill everyone in site, my ranking will be as high as teh people who play it 40 hours a week and kill everyone in site.

well, you see, that wouldn't be fair... the people that do play it more, have spent more of their time playing... this may be from the fact they have no life, but regardless, they've played and killed more then you

Yeah, that'd be a good idea. If you win a lot, you'd go up levels and play harder people who are hopefully closer to your skill level.

In a way your right. They should get a little more advantage over me, but why should I be ranked like 200,000 and be killing people ranked 367 all the time, and i'm not just getting lucky, I'm better, hell once in SOCOM i played 1v1 with a dude ranked like 150,000 spots ahead of me (I talked a lot of trash about this subject and he wanted to play me) I took him in straight sets he only won 3 games out of 16

I agree that ranking needs to be fixed. Now I honestly could care less about my rank or ranking but I have thought about it because I have friends that care about theirs.

I think that the best ranking system like mentioned would be a kill to death ratio based on time played. The one thing about this though is that it would have to be set so that if a person has under a certain amount of time or kills to deaths their ranking wouldn't be at the top. The reason for this is because some people could come on the game and play 10 mins and get like 3 kills and no death and then they would be at the top. This would allow for a fair ranking of players based on their time played. Also I wouldn't mind it if MS went through and trimmed out players that weren't active in the past month every month. That way you wouldn't have a ton of people that had only played it once or twice on there.

On games like Capture the flag it would take into account flag steals and how many times you killed a teammate to get the flag because we all know how some people are such flag whores that they kill teammates just to get the flag. Similar things for other modes. Also it would keep track of other stats like headshots, assists, etc.

A fair system is all it needs. ELO isn't that system. I have told MS employees that face to face when asked about it. ELO drives everyone nuts because it isn't a very accurate measure of a persons skill.

Sure they will but what about the people who dont play XBL that much and they play the campaign all by themselves on Legendary and beat that three times, and they do LAN parties all the time. They could put up a huge fight, but since they dont play that much their SOL

they need to have like a code next to their ranking that says how many hours they play, and maybe have two rankings, Like one that is normal Like Rainbow Six that benefits the people who play it all day, and one that divides score by time, but that is asking a little much i know

There is difference between skill and kills, my friend. If it all came down to kills, would you want to join a difficult game server? Sure, you wouldn't be near the top ten skill players or anything if you did that all day, but why get better skill-wise when you have the alternative to rack up kills that give you better stats?

If Bungie doesn't blast our realities away with a fabulous, easily understood and fair ranking system they have thought up allready, here is my two cents.

What would happen if you only could raise your rank through beating better ranking players/get a lowered rank by loosing to lower ranking players? This would demand skill, and time played would not be that much of an issue.

Sure, if someone plays Halo 2 day in and day out, and beat a player, say ten ranks higher than him, and another player with less on-line time beats the same ^10 ranks player, this player should advance more, since the on-line guy probably plays more matches, which leads to probably beating more skilled players.

Anyone thiks this system would be total garbage?

I like it, but most people wont be playing 1v1 games, so it would be really tough to do this with team kills, because what if there is a kid on a team that sucks but everyon else is good, his rank goes up for being sucky and actually making his team worse. I think a SOCOM 2ish system would be good, they did a great job.
