A ten year dream finally realized. I finally have my own computer! Look out Internet and The World; Here Comes Tekknight! (12/22/06)
Obviously Microsoft has Bungie to thank for a lot of their success. I'm one of the ones they brought into the fold, though not in the typical manner.
I thought Halo 1 was all hype, not owning an Xbox I didn't see the lure. Maybe I was being a tad fan-boyish. When Halo 2 dropped, I saw how excited my young cousin got. I was curious. Alas the summer before Halo 2 dropped I was laid off. Unemployed I was living off of a meager income. At a very low point in my life I ended up visiting an aunt for whom I performed odd jobs. My young cousin was there and showed me Halo 2. I was intrigued. So we used the free LIVE trial. THIS is where it got serious. We played for a few hours taking on gamers from all over teaming up and going head to head. I was hooked. Everything was set up so nicely the game so pretty, the music marvelous. I dare say I never thought I'd love an FPS as much as Goldeneye.
Fully addicted I went to great lengths to play. I got my gamertag, despite not owning an Xbox. I paid for LIVE despite making hardly anything. I didn't have a controller so I used a PSONE controller with an adapter, and my cell phone headset as a mic. (LOL). I played over 1000 games on my cousins system, many of them when double team came out. i even loaned the youngster money so he could go online with me.
Years later the Xbox 360 is a hit. Once again my cousin is the early adopter (thanks to parents) and has one. The system AMAZES me. Obviously LIVE's friend list is based on Halo 2's, one of a many great ideas they borrowed from Bungie it seems (party chat anyone?) By then I'm employed again, and I start saving for my OWN 360! When I got it I immediately got Halo 2.
Sadly after Halo 3 came out something prevented me from playing Halo 2 online. Recently I re-downloaded all of the maps and was able to finish with a bang. My goal was 2000 games, but I accidentally did 2001 (the obsessive compulsive in me is gonna take a while to get over this). Funny thing is, based on just Halo 2 and LIVE's features, I talked every one of my friends into getting an Xbox 360. We all have different tastes but the Xbox has allowed old college friends who have spread across the country to stay in touch.
I was never great at Halo 2. My start was probably the most bootleg in history aside from piracy. I had an absolute BLAST getting my last 61 games in over the last couple days. I only wish my cousin weren't in college so we could've gotten in on last double team match. we were team players and never jerks online. (Though I have tea-bagged a rude player once before). I loved Big Team Battle and Team Skirmish. I've had my share of AMAZING games, and WOW moments. Abused the Double Team bait-and-switch tactic and above all loved every minute EVEN when I was losing.
I thank you Bungie because Halo 2 COMPLETELY changed the way I and my friends game. Thumbs up soldiers.
