Subject: To be fair, where were all of you?

Always check if theres bog roll first

All this final hour nostalgia about the game as it is finally being shut off from xbox live.

Everyone sad and complaining about it being banished to the netherworld of non-functional entertainment.

It begs the question, where were all of you months ago?

I've been playing pretty much only halo 2 for the last 4 years, and have gradually seen the population dwindle and decrease gradually.

For all of you who supposedly care so much about the game, where were you over the last 2 or 3 years?

Halo 2 needed more players, but those who moved on to different games and are now complaining about it's loss have no right to complain. Those who haven't played recently just HAVEN'T PLAYED!

If you'd really loved the game you would have sessioned it way before it's final hours.

Many left Halo 2 to rot and die, don't pretend you were here all along.

I admire the purist that kept this game alive and allowed me to continue enjoying it way after Halo 3.

Thankyou to the people that kept playing.

To those who left it, keep your false loss to yourself.

We were playing Halo 3.

I have been on and off since I got live back on '07

I did have a problem with losing the maps and when I upgraded my tv and started using VGA I thought I would never be able to update and play again (You cannot use VGA for the update or map downloads in pal regions) and this final hoorah convinced me to move all my xbox and stuff to somewhere I can use components to update and DL.

As for the people who only played so they could get their reach special thingy, I hope Bungie puts a minimum total games limit to recieve it like 500 or maybe even 1000.

I joined into Halo late, by the time Halo 3 was already out.

I started with CE, moved up to Halo 2 and played splitscreen. My internet connection sucked, so I couldn't play live. I then got a 360 to play Halo 3, but my brother hacked his xbox and broke it so I couldn't play Halo 2 until I got a hardrive.

By the time I got the hardrive, I was already sucked into Halo 3.

My favorite video game memory so far though was the first night I had 4 controllers and a copy of Halo 2...

This thread would have appealed to me more if it was written with crayons.

I have been playing Halo 2 since 2004 but haven't had live. Custom games with my friends was good enough for me. once I finally got live in 2008 I was too busy playing Halo 3 to play halo 2. I still frequently play compaign with my friends.

Wayne Jarvis, Attorney at Law; I have a responsibility to tell you that there is no candy in this office.

Honestly, I preferred Halo 2, but it never worked very well on the 360. I had to move on. I still came back from time to time for a few games.

HAHA yes! This thread wins because it's so true. This is like when Halo chess was announced it made everyone so upset because it was an April fools joke and they wanted it xD. Even if chess were to be in, people would flame the S**T outta Bungie for wasting their time on programming it. If you haven't realized a lot of people here are pretty hypocritical.

Honestly i jumped around from Halo 3 to ODST to Halo CE to even Halo 2 and to other non-Halo related games

July 15, 2008... The day the timer stood still.

To me it's not that the game itself is shutting down as much as it's the fact that a game that I dedicated myself to so much is going down. Until the last couple of months, I haven't played Halo 2 since Halo 3 came out. But just the fact that it's going offline is like my best friend who moved away a long time ago just died. I never talked to that friend since he moved, but I remember all the time we spent together...

Nostalgia must be waxed.

But something only becomes nostalgic when it isn't waxed.

Think back after the Halo 3 beta. Button glitches and cheating was rampant, there was no ranked BTB so most BTB games had no teamwork, and ended quicker then it took to load the map because the teammates you got usually quit before the game started due to them not liking the map/gametype. It was even worst with guests.

People move on, play newer, different games.

The last days bring back the vets of Halo 2, wanting to play it in it's fun purest form without competitive egos but also with teamwork. Sending it out, with a bang.

To summarize: We were just waxin' goddamn nostalgic.

La Vie Boheme

I've been with Halo 2 since the day of its release. I admit that I did not play it as admirably as many other newer games came out, however I still always went back to it for at least a few days every month or two. I know that this wasn't nearly enough, and I am truly sorry for that, for I believe that Halo 2 was the greatest online game in history. That isn't an exaggeration either. That is my wholly honest opinion, and I will continue to say that for several years to come.

Which is why I am going to set up a group of people (possibly design a website for this) who I can convince to get a program like Xbox Connect (yes, it works, I've used it before), and have a small community of players playing custom games all day whether they be classics (Tower of Power, Zombies, Tremmors, Cat and Mouse, etc.) or whether they be standard matchmaking gametypes (Team Snipers, Rumble Slayer, 1 Flag, etc.).

However, even that will never be able to replace the large portion of my life that I poured into this game for hours on end. (I even remember back in '06 doing a 50 hour marathon of Halo 2 right after they reset the ranks with one of my friends. Our goal was to get a 50 in any playlist again, so we chose Team Snipers and played what we called the "50 in 50". It is probably the most vivid gaming memory I have to this day, and by the end of it, we were successful.)

Sparkle Sparkle Sparkle!

I tried to play as often as I could. I feel bad that I'm not one of the last 634.

On this account, I played 143 Halo 2 games online. On my Xbox 1 account- 2536, and that was just six months, before my wireless thingy went bad.

But I do know what you mean, about those -blam!- kids who only played for that...

That is the best way i have ever heard it put.

I was trying to get the game to let me play online. My map packs kept getting corrupted, often before I had a chance to even play on them.

Managed it just in time for this. I didn't leave it - I'd been trying to get back on for over a year.

Haha, you speak the Tru7h Man!

Just a shame the population decreased so much until the last few days! :(

I will DEFINATELY get involved with this XBOX CONNECT action.

Sounds good, I hope it takes off!

Such a poignant way of putting it dude, puts it into perspective.

A sad day indeed.

My signature changes too often!

I actually only played 2 games beforehand back in early 2009 or so and in both of those games I faced numerous bouts of lag and host changes and it left me with a bad impression of the game. Come a few days ago, I decided to boot it up for some final action and, with green bars all around, the game was pretty damn fun. If only I'd given it a second chance I probably would have played more often :(

I honestly thought it was a terrible post. From my perspective, it seems Halo 2 was the only friend to this poor sap.

And basically all of you as well.
