if your thinking about getting Halo PC and then making some Maps With it then you would want to use Gmax, or 3Ds Max witch is what i use, but they are very similar by appearance with the biggest difference being the fact that Gmax is free and 3Ds Max costs around $500, unless you get a *cough* keygen *cough*. but the key gen only works for half the people who use it. and you would half to DL HEK or halo editing kit.
here are some pics of 3Ds Max: http://www.maj.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=94722
if you do plain on using one of these 2 programs i warn you, they are not exactly the easiest programs, it's not like say... doom builder were you just draw a 2D area and then pull them up. it will take time to learn. but you can do just about anything with it.

I'm not saying doom builder is crap, I'm just saying it's a hell of a lot essayer than 3Ds Max and Gmax and dose a lot less, but then again the original doom games were a lot more simplistic in comparison to halo anyways. you should try it sora, and try to make a map for a game people still play.

i wouldnt criticize spelling either if i were any of you. But on to the main topic. Gmax seems to be the most popular map-making program due to being free and slightly easier to use than 3Ds Max. Although, 3Ds Max is much more sophisticated. Another thing i should mention is that you better have one helluva instruction manual to use either one and get it right the first time. I would say to either get a better program for as stated "500 dollars" or get Gmax for free is up to you and only you.

You can get a free trial of 3ds max, you can't use a keygen on the trial, we shouldn't even be talking about keygens! If you are looking for a straightfoward mapmaker, you won't find it. The hardest part, though, is the 3ds max part. You won't create beautiful maps right away, you will make crap ones, which give you alot of errors when trying to export and stuff. If you are willing to learn how to use the programs, there is almost nothing you can't do.
