but once you're signed into live, Live no longer has nothing to do with the Halo matchmaking, I know its going over live, but technically the live network still works (as the 360 works over it) its just the support for old games that have turned off.

Is that how they are still playing as the Halo 2 MM servers at bungie are still operational?

sorry if I'm sounding daft, but no body can sign into live anymore via Halo 2, yet people are still playing it and getting matchmade games... what do people think?

Halo 2 is a peer to peer game, so if people are still on, it keeps going. Sooner or later though, tey'll all be kicked off, and Halo 2's multiplayer for the Xbox will have officially died.

Original Xbox Live support has been cut but if you're already signed on, you're running off of Bungie's servers, not Microsofts. The games are P2P but the Matchmaking system and the servers at Bungie are still up and running. It's pretty much up to Bungie to pull the plug at this point.

Presumably we're gonna reach a point where Bungie will have to pull the plug for fear of someone making themselves ill after playing for 24hours+

My guess is that Bungie is fast asleep. When they get to the office this morning, they'll probably pull the plug then.

this is what I thought, I knew the games were peer to peer, but the match making system is still there, so what stops bungie from releasing a patch to bypass the live system on sign in and connect to their servers if the fans want to keep halo 2 so much?

I suspect MS raping bungie if they did that though lol

I wish I was still legendary.

1. it'd be VERY complicated.
2. It'd involve changing the entire way the Xbox connects to the internet..
3. MS have to 'sign' any updates that go out before they get released.
4. Xbox Connect does something similar already, and is free.
