Bungie didn't shut anything off Microsoft discontinued the XBL service for all original Xbox consoles and Xbox 1 games. That includes games that are backwards compatible on the Xbox 360.

because the numbers from a few days ago were about like ~500 ppl a day, and the numbers im sure would have dwindled after about a week back down to that if they decided not to shut it down

Bungie is not doing anything. Infact, they are the ones keeping it alive as we speak.

Microsoft are the ones shutting down all original xbox live game support.

And also, for the past 18 months or so, the total population of Halo 2 has struggled to get passed 1000...
